Mrs. L. C. Parker and little son Dick left today for an extended visit to her mother in Cortland Ala. Dr. C. H. JJcMurray and family left Sunday in their new car for several days outing in the mountains of N. C. Miss Bertha Eigermen of Florida, is visi ting her sister Mrs. Hill Dupree. Rev. Martin spent Saturday and Sun day in Newberry. Mrs Calvin Thompson and Children are in "Winnsboro with relatives. Mrs. Alen Roper of this city who has been making her home with her daughter for the past, few years received a severe fall some months ago and has been suffer ing somewhat ever since. For the last few days she has not been near so well. Mrs. Roper's as well as Mrs. Browns' friends are sorry to know this and hope Mrs. Roper will now be better. i!r. Julian Roper spent several days in the city last week on a visit to his mothers Mrs. Roper and his sister Mrs. C. D. Brown. The community especially the congre gotion of the A. R. P. Church were grieved on yesterday morning on hearing of the death of little Miss Louise Ellis. The be reaved parents have the sincere sympathy of relatives and friends. Mr. W. W. Bradley left Monday for Co lumbia from there he will attend the press association at Chick Springs. Mr. Billy Bradley and James Klugh were tw o among the fortunate boys who got jobs in Fort Valley Ga. picking and packing peaches. Billy says they have good jokes, a good bed, plenty to eat, lots of work to do and a good salary. They hope to be away about five or six weeks. Mr. ana Mrs. Mark Bradley passed througli Abbeville on Monday on their way to Clemson, taking with them in their ma chiue Mrs. Sallie Bradley and Mrs. Bettie Wardiaw- They promise to give this mother and grandmother a good time just as long as they will remain with them. Gary, Mrs. Frank B. Gary, Mrs. Eugene Gary and Miss Caroline Gary attended the fun eral services of Judge Ernest Gary in Co lumbia on last Wednesday. Mrs. James M. Eason of Charleston after attending Judge Ernest Garys funeral in Columbia on Wednesday came up to Abbt vi lie Friday to see her mother Mrs. M. C. Gary. She returned to Charleston on Sun day. The regular meeting of the Bridge Club will be with Mrs. Mrs. F- E. Harrison Fri day afternoon. Mrs. J. D. Kerr and J. D. Kerr, Jr. will leave for N. Y, on next Saturday. They go to visit Mrs. Stillermau and Mis. Percy Miller of N, J. They will be gone until about September. Little Ida Howie has returned home af ter five weeks stay with her sister, Mrs. C. W. Long in Atlanta. The mill will stop for three days next week on account of one of the boilers be ing out of fix. Born, July 5th, to Mr. and Mrs. Will Hodges, a daughter. Crowds have been taking * in the 4th. Part took Saturday and part Monday, and everybody seemed to be having a time. A crowd of us went fishing on the 4th over on the river. The Junior Order got up a crowd and they certainly did catch the fish. There was a crowd went on the train out to the river and others went in automobiles. There was Mr. Will Blan chet's family, Mr. Paul Blanchet's family, Mr. Gus Blanchet and Mrs. McCullar, Mr. Jim Blum and family, Mr. Charley Wilson and family, Mr. Jim Cox and little daugh ter Ida, Mr. C. B. Walker and family, Miss Luna Grant, Mrs. Will Bowio and Will Al len, Ernest and Robert Gray were the crowd that went on the train. We got to the river about sun up and we went to strollincr around and t.h? men wont, intn the river. The other crowd got there about 9 o'clock, and they began, to send in the fish and about half past 2 o'clock we had about 75 pounds of fish fried, seme of them weighing from four and five to about thirteen pounds, and the cloths were spread on the ground and was covered with everything that was good to eat be sides the fish, and everybody ate and seemed to enjoy themselves, but a big cloud was rising and v.o had to hurry, as Mr. Green and Mr. Mars said they would carry us to "Watts in the automobiles, so we could have a shelter,which we thought was nice in them, as wo had to wait on the 10 o'clock train that night, and we got there and did take in that little town of Watts from 4 o'clock until 10 that night. The young folks danced and played and certainly enjoyed themselves. Mr. Char ley "Wilson said there wasn't but one thing he hated and that was ho got his silk hat wet and he was afraid it was ruined, but we hated nothing for we were out for a big time and we certainly had that. Miss Maud and Mies Marie Rianchet, Ernest and Robert Gray, Will Allen Bowie, and Miss Luna Grant said they went to havo a big time and to eat the lish. They had it and the peaches, also, and if the mill stops wait and see it wo don't go again. Mrs. James Is very sick at this writing. Mrs. W. 13. Goinp: speaks of visiting homel'olks in the country next week. Mr. Will Lewis is slowly improving, iis he is taking a treatment from a doctor in Georgia for pellagra.
