Martin came up from Abbeville today a week ago, and again at 11 a. m. next day occupied the pulpit in Providence church and gave one of his best, most in teresting sermons. While here he was the guest of Mr. Jas. T. Baskin and family. Last Saturday at 9 a. m. there was born to Mr- and Sirs. E. J. Huckabee, a daugh ter. Last Sunday evening Messrs. G. H. Bai lee and Bruce Harper and Misses Eunice Eussell and Leila Moseley, of Anderson, tnnV an evpnfna'fi ant.n rirlp tn thic nlnno ami spent an hour or two at our home. Sunday was a cloudy day and all day Monday it was the same. Late in the evening it began to rain in very small drops, which continued the same way till sometime in the night. We retiredjhoping to find the next morning that we had a ground soaker that was badly needed, but alas! our hepes were shattered. From the best information gathered since, the rain was very light. It is very badly needed. Mr. J. Bruce Moseley, of Augusta, Ga., came up last Sunday and spent till the next T evening with his father, Dr. J. B. Moseley and family and other relatives. The delegates in part from Club No. 1 went to Abbeville and attended the meet ing of the Democratic County Convention Monday. Mr. Jno. W. McCalla of the Fork brought his wife with him this far and left her with friends while he went to Abbeville on business and back, Monday. Mr. R. H. Moseley and Miss Birtie Boll went as delegates from the Smyrna Sun day School and attended the session of the Anderson District Sunday School Confer ence at Iva on Wednesday. Mr. Jas. A. Hawthorn, of Latimer, walked here Tuesday morning, reaching here perhaps before some of us were out bed. He and a darkey drove two yearlings home with him, which accounts in part for his early arrival, as it was decidedly bet ter for him as well as the yearlings to get back home before it cot too warm. Miss Louise Barber of Lander Female College Faculty, of Greenwood, came over Sunday and was with the family of her I brother-in-law till Tuesday evening, j Rev. Foster Speer, of Jefferson, came over Wednesday and spent till next day with his frther, Dr. A. J. Speer and family. Mrs. J. H. Bell left yesterday morning for Burdell, Fla? to visit her son, Mr. Leon ! and family. After the light rain last Monday, the next day till a while afternoon a very high wind blew and clouds of dust were ram pant. particularly on Main street in this place, but we are glad to say that no damage was done by sand storms, as re ported to have been the case in some of the lower counties. Miss Mary Klugh came home Saturday from Rock Hill where she has been teach ing for the past year. Mr. J. T. McCaw, of Columbia, spent the week-end in the city with Mrs. McCaw. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hanvey aq? chil dren, of Portsmouth, spent Saturday with Mrs. Mary Kennedy. Mr. and Mrs. Han vey visited in Florida before coming to Abbeville, and expect to spend some time in the country with Mr. Hanvey's mother before returning to Portsmouth.
