On hist Thursday afternoon, July 7th the littl*- daughters of "Secession Chapter' met with Miss Hannah Jones on Matra/,in< Street. About thirty were present ami en joyed the following program: Music by Miss Marie Carlton. Miss Marion Cason. historian of tlu chapter, read a Ijeautiful poem entitled "Secession Hill," wiitten by Mrs. L. K vose 01 Tins city especially ior uie new sioa. Music by Miss Caroline Gary. A sketch of General Capers' life as a soldier was then read by Miss Mary Bradley. Music by Miss Lou Ellen McFall. Miss Esther Graydon, president of the chapter, then stated that a small sum had been requested to be given by each chapter in the State to erect a dormitory at the Orphan's Home in Yorkville, S. C., as a memorial to General Ellison Capers. A vote was taken when all heartily responded. Each member then subscribed a small amount for a badge which will soon be furnished them. An entertainment was nest planned to be given next week, the object of which is to erect a tablet in our Court House with the names of the seven colonels who served in the Confederate war from this city? live of whom laid down their lives for the cause. This is a working band of little girls trying to do what they can to perpetuate the memory of our gallant sons who sacrified their lives upon the altar of their country. They deserve the praise \ and assistance of every one in their noble efforts in memory of the lost cause, but * one that is dear to every son and daughter in this beautiful Southland, and one that will forever linger in their memories. Mrs. F. J. Marshall entertained the children with some pretty old time music on the piano. During the afternoon dainty and delightful refreshments were served. Miss Jessie Speed is entertaining a home party this week at her beautiful home on \T?in St-rnot Tlirt yuosts will be eharm ingiy entertained by one so popular and gifted as their fair hostess, while the occasion of their visit will long linger us a bright spot in their memory. Miss Ada McMillan, one of the pretty young ladies on Magazine Hill, will entertain a number of her friends this week at a house party. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. White returned last week from their bridal tour and are now at home to their friends at their pretty home on Upper Main Street . Mr. Joel Morso and sisters, with Miss Grace Smith, leave today for Montreal, N. C., where they will enjey a six weeks' outing. Misses Mary and Sara Perrin are now enioving a summer's outing at Montreal, N.'C. Talk about your northern spys and poppins, but if you could see the beautiful old t2me apples raised in the orchard of Mrs. Fannie Marshall's, you would open your eyes and mouth wide. They are beautiful and luscious, too. Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Link and children returned last week from a very pleasant trip to their home people atCourtland, Ala. Mrs. W. T. McDonald is spending a while with her sister, Mrs. Robert Hill, of Atlanta. Misses Margaret and Annie Reid Evans of this city are visiting relatives at Lebanon. Many friends learn with delight that Miss Lizzie Penney is getting on as well as could be expected for one having been so ill. She is now resting more comfortable and it is hoped is better, Mrs. J. S. Cochran and daughter, Mildred, are now visiting her home people at Bockingham and Charlotte, N. C. NEWS ON ROUTE 3. t On last Wednesday. July C, 1910, the marriage ceremony of Mr. Tompkins Ramey and Miss Matilda Greene wus solemnized Gilgal church in the presence of a large number of invited guests. Immediately after the ceremony a delightful reception was given ajfc the home of the bride. Miss Greene is a most estimable youug lady who is most highly esteemed for her many beautiful traits of character which have endeavored her to a large circle of friends. The happy groom is a young man of lino business qualifications, living in the Lebanon section at his pretty country home. He lias the congratulations of hosts of friends at winning the heart and hand of go fair and lovely a bride. This young couple begin wedded life under the brightest auspices and have the best wishes of many friends. Miss Leone \\ ood hurst has just returned Jiouie after a protracted visit to her grandfather, Mr. J. T. Fortiscue.' Mrs. J. King and children of McCoriniek arc spending a while with her mother, Mrs. M. J. Mann, Birth?To Mrs. A. K. Woodhurst, July 9, 1910, a son, and strange to say this is the third child of this family born on the same date of the same mrnth. This is indeed a remarkable coincident. After a delightful stay with her home people in Anderson, Mrs. S. S. Link returned home last week. Miss Belle McKenzieis visiting her home people in the Sharon section. Mr. Robert McCanty. one of the wideawake salesman of S. J. Link, is spending his vacation at his pretty country home among the oaks. Miss Janie Mabrv, one of the popular salesladies at the Yellow Front Bargain Store, is now enjoying an outing with her home people at Lebanon. There is nothing like the comforts and pleasures of a happy home. Mrs. T. H. Watson and Miss Leila Walker or snaron were among me welcome visitors in the city last week. Misses Lillie and Bessie Link were the ^fair guests of their cousin, Miss Xelle Mc Gaw, one day last week. Delightful refreshments were served and all had a jolly time. Mrs. James Gilliam and daughter. Mrs, J.'H. Prince, were among the welcome vis itors in the city last Thursday. Furmers are further behind in theu crops than for several years, but they art now pushing and doing their best to catcl: up. The Oldest Denominational Institution in the StateWo am in reeoipt of a catalogue of Erskine College for 'l!)10-llill, which is an interesting book. Of 153 students, 100 are from South Carolina. North Carolina has 24; Tennessee 12, the other students came in smaller numbers from other States. For various reasons the college is to be congratulated on the number from this State. The strength of a college is not wholly derived from books. As a rule, students of a. college stick to each other in politics, md they help each other in after life. The make-up of the catalogue seems to i)0 exceptionabiy good.
