During the recent unpleasantness be tween the States, members of the Unioj army extended to him an invitation t aocept their hospitality. The Yanks gav him and others a regular house party fo a time which was . much longer than th "house parties" of this day and time, an they paid daily attention to Mr. Rykar and his associates. The temperature of the weathe In the land of Mr. Bykard's hosts on occ* aion ran down to 30 degrees below zer. when those who were keeping watch t prevent harm from coming to their guest were forced to go in doors, lleaving guesl to their fate. The District of Columbia law undor which a consumptive has been arrested and sentenced for frequenting a saloon is an extreme example of the new legislation against tuberculosis. In several States of the Union consumptives are now prohibited from marring. They may not teach in the public schools or ir minors become pupils. In Oklahoma physicians infected with tefbuculosis are refused licenses to practice. As a'result of the.socials movement against the diisease hovels and hospitals decline to receive its victims as guests of patients. Ministers will not marry them. Health resorts discourage their presence and a California city has threatened to deny asylum to visitors from the East know to have the disease in an advanced stage. All of this is evidence of a determined and praiseworthy effort to reduce the risk of infection. But consideration of equal justice should not be overlooked. Is the consumptive a man and brother or a leper mac ne snouiu ue suujeuteu to social ostracism? If we are to create by law a parish lcass in which by the nature of tneir disease many refused people must included, we at least should compensate those from whom the privileges of society are withdrawn, If consumptives are to be segregated adequate provision should be made for their accommodation in hospitals, and mountain camps and for their sanitary housing under some formjof the community plan. The Cleveland experiment on tlrts line reveals a sense of society's moral obligation to the consumptive. In our "war on the white plague it is well to bear in mind the rights of the couquered under the rules of civilized warfare. RHEUMATIC FOLKS, Are Yon Sure Your Kidneys are WeJl? Many rheumatic attacks are due to uric acid in'the blood. But tbe duty of tbe kidneys is to remove all uric acid from tlie blood. Its presence there shows tbe hidiie^'sare inactive. Don't dally^with "uric acid solvents." You might go on till doomsday with them, but until you cure tbe kidneys you w.ill never get well. Doan'w KidiievPiiJa not only remov. uric aciiT^ buffer?/ tbe kidneys and inen an cu^oger jrom unu aciu is enued. The following testimony will convince the most skeptical Abbeville citizen : Mrs. Lucy Tucker, 23 Mill Row, Laurens, S. (J., says: "For several years I sull'ered fiom kidney trouble. My back ached a great deal and I had rheumatic twinges in my sides. Headaches often bothered me and at timesI was so weak that I could hardly do my houf-e worK Believing that all this trouble arose from disordered kidueys and having hiard Doan's Kidney Pills highly sfoken of for t-ui-h complaints, I procured a box. Since using this remedy I have improved greatly and I have no hesitation in saying that I believe it to be the be?t kidney prepar&tiou to be had." For eale by all dealers. Price 50 cents.
