V ;r mi I. i,..i i.r The Press and Banner Bv W, W. and W. R. Bradley. HUGH WILSON, Editor. ABBEVILLE, S. C. ?*-Pabllshed every Wednesday at 82 a year in advanoe. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1908. The Seminole Talk. Columbl^ls now the centre of a big sensation In lnsuranoe circles, and no one yet Is certain of anything, except that appearances that. ontnA ni?lv tra.nHact.ionB between tbe Seminole Securities Company and tbe Southern Life Insurance Company may be unearthed and exposed. At present tbe good name of some mighty good men are in peril. | Tbe good name of tbe directors of tbe Seminole Company and tbe skill of their soliciting agents won for tbe Seminole a wonderful success. One notable feature was the ability of tbe soliciting agents to sell slock at a premium of fifty per cent. Another notable act In the game was the alleged wrongdoing of tbose who held tbe money. Such scandals are Injurious, not only to tbe stockholders, but to tbe general prosperity of tbe country. If our own people may not trust their neighbors of most honored names, public confidence is destroyed. A number of our own people in Abbeville bave been caught in the scheme which has been denounced as a fraud. Christmas. Next Friday will be Christmas, the most Important day 1q the Christian calendar. Kind words and good deeds should character lze our conduct daring the day. It Is an occasion for Joy and goodwill to every living creature, While Joy and happiness should mark our conduct, It Is also true tbat vice and wrongdoing should not enter Into the festivities that commemorate the%blrlh of our Bavlour. The giving of gifts and* the participation in Innocent amusements are all right and proper, but no one 6bonld forget that the occasion is one for grateful thanks to Him who died tbat we might live. In our Joy there should be a sentiment of reverence and devotion to our Redeemer. A? oar Redeemer was good to us, 60 we sbould be considerate ol the lives and the pleasure of the animals below us. Let ua not abuse, malm or kill them unnecessarily on tbat occasion. Let them be exempt from cruelty for at least that day. Our churches should be open and you \ should be there to render thanks to the Giver of good gifts and graces. i T Fifty-Ninth Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. James Sberard of Anderson county on last week celebrated the 59th anniversary of their marriage. The Bible class of Rev. L. I.
