On last Tuesday evening Miss Josie Dupre the bright and attraotlve daughter of Mr, \V. V. Dupre entertained in compliment to her charming guests the Misses Keik, Tbe pretty home resting among the flowers was beautUaliy decorated within and wltnout, and the happy song and merry laugh of thegue8ts told the joy and happiness wubiu. After music and many pretty games, delightlul refreshemenls were served. Misses Lizzie Nance, Jennie Mae and Ruth Dunn after a delightful visit to frleuds aud relatives In and around Lowndesville returned last week, aud are now the guests of their father, Major F. W. K. Nance and lamlly. Mr. Willie Dunn, a handsome young man from Ocalia, Fla. Is the guests of his grandfather Major Nance. Mr Dunn is a Carolinian but has been sojourning in the land of flowers lor 12 years; uo long an aosence nianea uio visit doubly pleasant. Gambrell died at the hospital at Ches. ter S. C. last Sunday abont one o'clock P. M. Mrs Gambrell bud been In declining health for sometime and as a last resort went to this hospitable for trearment, but all to no avail, as the best medical aid, together witb all that loving bands could do, could not stay tbe band of the Reaper, (or he claimed her as a bright trophy, and bore ber soul from r eartb away. * Mrs. Gambrell, nee MIfs Mae Mcl<aughen made ber home In Abbeville lor several years and .by ber bright sunny disposition won many friends who learn of her sad death with great sorrow. A husband and three children are bowed in ' sorrow over their great loss, but ber work on earth Is ended and ber gentle spirit has winged its way into tbe great beyond. Her remains were taken from Chester to her borne at Kings Mountain, N. C. on Sunday where Interment was made in the City Cemetery. Mr. J. Mi Gambrell, accompanied by his daughter Miss Ellen left Sunday to attend tbe last sad rites of their daughter, and sisterin law. Brooks ibuevllle, tt u, Jan. 1. 190S REGISTRATION # I The attention of the public i* called to the Act of the recent Legislature, approved the 241 h day of February, 1908, which reads as follows : An Act to Provide for the Re-Enrollment and Registration of the Qualfied Electors of this State During the Year 1908, and to Provide Compensation fur the Supervisors of Registration. Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, That the Supervisors of Regiofi-ofinn in onch flniint.V of t.hfi Stale are required to re-enroll all the qualified electors in this State during the year 1908. Sec. 2. That the same time the said Supervisors shall register all persons who may make application therefor and who may be entitled thereto. < Sec. 3. That for the purpose of such enrollment and registration the said Supervisor shall keep the books of registration open at the several county 'eats every day (Sundays excepted), between tbe hours of nine a. m. and ( six p. m., during the months of July and August, 11)08; and in addition j thereto, they sball attend, during the , month of September, 1908, at least one day in each township, in their respective Counties, of which at least ten day's notice sball be given by. advertisement in a newspaper published in the Couuty ; and in Counties containing fifty thousand iuhabitants they shall attend in each city, town, or iu auscriai COUJUlUUUy, wuinimug luicc hundred or more inhabitants, at least one day, upon similar notice: Provided, That the provisions of this Section shall only apply t'? the re-enrollmentand registration for the year 1908. Sec. 4. That for the purpose of said re-enrollment the Secretary of State shall furnish the Supervisors of Registration with all the necessary booKs, and the sum of live hundred dollars shall be appropriated for supplying aaid books. Sec. 5. That tfee Supervisors of Registration shall etch receive for their services, during the year 1908, the sum of two hundred dollars, to be paid by the State quarterly, as other State officers are paid : except in the Couuties uf Anderson, Charleston, Greenville, Sumter, Orangeburg, Richlaud, where they shall each receive two hundred and fifty dollars for the year 1908: Provided, That in Spartanburg County they shall receive this year three hundred dollars, to be paid as above provided; that, after the year 1908, the Supervisors of Registration shall each receive fifty dollars per annum in off years and one huudred dollars in gen sral erection years: except in tne above named Counties, where they shall each receive seventy-five dollars per annum in oft years, and in general slection years they ehall receive two hundred dollars each per annum, including the County of Spartanburg.
