TO HEAD PAPER. Mr, Graves Announces That Another , Daily lit to be Started Soon ia At) ant nt p> Special to the Chronicle. Atlauta, Ga., Feb. 13?Colonel John Temple Graves today announced in s card that he will in a short time publish a new daily in Atlanta. Whilt he is not specific in his card, it is understood the that paper of which Col. Graves will be tbe editor is tht Georgian, charter, for which has been granted to F. L. Seely. Col. Graves card follows: "The order of the court today in tht contempt cases seem to make legal the purchase of the stock of tbe Atlanta News by the railroads and theii friends, and feeling it impossible tc preserve my integrity of conviction and liberty of action under the presenl ownership of the paper, ] voluntarily resign the editorship of the journal which I have guidea from its foundation. I am able to definitely aauounce that witbin a short time I shall pub lisb and edit a new daily paper in Atlanta, backed by large capital aud at ampler equipment than ever sustained a news paper in the South. Thii paper will staud for the same princi pies which have given force anc popularity to the paper I have left Only in this instance it wiil stanc for these principles permanently, be t cause the new datly will have n< stpck holders, and my only partnei 1 wiirbe a gentleman in whose cbarac ter, motives and co-operative fidelity J have implicit and well-founded con fidence. [Sfgned.] JOHN TEMPLE GRAVES.' &> >?! '' ' ' " Reunited. [From the New York World] It is to be regretted tnat an iueuu 5 * zens of the Union south of Mason's and Dixon's line could not have seen the impressive military pageant, which made Gen. Joseph Wheeler's funeral a beautiful and memorable spectacle. If they could have seen the flagdraped casket on the gun-carriage, the escort of Spanish war veterans, National Guardsmen, artillerymen and khaki-clad regulars, who are neither Northern nor Southern, but Americans, if they could have seen the orderly lines of people as numerous as the total population of Atlanta bare their heads as the slow line moved past, it would have been a revelation of Northern sentiment to some of our southern friends. There was in the sight no sadness but a deep and patriotic satisfaction that stirred to tears thousands of those who looked upon it. In death as in life, it was the peculiar glory this K . ?. man?there wa9 no other thought in all the throng?to remrnd U9 that this v ia only one Nation, that the dead solL-'v V dier himself, the empty saddle, the guns, the troops and the flag above them all are not yours or theirs but Rsb.pr; 5' ours. ' iijfc 5; SOUTH CAROLINA BANKS HATE RECORDS. FOR STABILITY. "In advocating the wisdom of em' ploying a State bank examiner" said a bank official yesterday, "the legislature and the newspapers seem to have overlooked the fine record of South Carolina in the banking business. Not since 1893 do I recollect a bunk failing t>v ; in this 8tate. It was during the great f financial crisis, and while similar institutions went down in other parts of the country onr banks remained firm. The exception to which 1 refer was a small bank in the central part of the State. It suspended business for a time though it later paid out dollar for dollar. I remember hearibg the Jate George "W. Williams, of Charleston say that just before the civil war ? the paper of South Carolina banks was better recieved in Europe than ' ' \ that of banks in other commonwealths. I,A* T ?nlft Kafnv 4rt thia QQ VI UUUIBO JL UUIJ <nw ku an incident," he continued. "I realize that an examiner of the right sort would help the banks and keep out some of the shaky propositions that sometimes spring up and have uo right to carry on a business." ANTREVILLE.
