Norwood, also of Abbeville, came up Monday and were the guests of he twriter for the day. Rev. R. W. Barber went to Williamston on Monday to visit his friend, Rev. Dr. Lander, President of Williamston Female College, who was, and is quite sick* Mr. G. W. Speer, of the Gaffney Bar has been for a short time with his father, Dr. A. J. Speer, and family. Mr. H, H. Prince, of Greenville was here Mouday and Tuesday on business. Mrs. J. D. Wilson, after snendiue some days with relatives in Anderson county, came back to her home here Tuesday. Mrn. A. J. Speer went to Anderson on Friday and* returned the same evening. Mr. H. H. Harris went to the home of his parents at Greenville Thursday evening, and will not return for several days after above date. Mr. J. J. Johnson, will attend to the school duties of the above in his absence. There was a municipal election in this town on Friday with the following result: The old council was reelected with some exceptions. Mr. R. H. Mosely, who was warden and secretary of the old council, was elected Tnteudent. Wardens: B. Bolin Allen, of old council, elected ou the new, D. K. Cooley, re-elected, E. W. Harper and Dr. T. O. Kirkpatrick. Mrs. Bessie Allen, of Starr, came down Friday morning, and that evening she and Mr. Bolin Allen and family went to Heardemont to spend a day or two with Mrs. Miltie McAlla, sister of Mr. Allen. Mr. Albert Power, of Penny's Creek, was in town on business Friday. Mr. and Mrs! P. C. Suber of Diamond Hill, came over Saturday and were the guests of Mrs. Sallie Huckabee. Messrs. A. E. Thompson and James Bone of Abbeville, came up Saturday and met with Roslin Lodge and done some work initiating some new mem bers, &c. Mrs. Kate Saddler and her daughter Mrs. Marie Watson, and her two pretty little daughters, of Mosely, were down yesterday and attended services in the Methodist church in the forenoon. Mr. Allen Sullivan and his sister, Miss Ella, of Laurens, County, have been in this section sezeral days. Mr. Edward Mason went to Pacolet Saturday to spend a few days with his father, Rev. E. W. Mason, and family. Mrs. J. T. Latimer went to Abbeville Saturday to spend a few days. Mr. Joel Keys came yesterday and was the guest of Mr. E. W. Harper. Easter Sunday was observed yesterday in the Methodist church, by appropriate services at 11 :30a.m., by the pastor, Rev. R. W. Barber. The ladies carried over to the church on Saturday some of their potted pets, evergreens and flowers, and arranged them nicely with taste so as to lend no little attraction to tha chancel and its surroundings. From the best information obtainable the planters in this section are nearer up in the preparation of their lands for the crops to be planted this year, than they were at a corresponding date last year. From what can be learned are not increasing their cotton area over last year, but their use of guanos will be considerably increased as they ore using more than usual under their corn. A word as to Rural Mail Carriers. The writer knows more as to their usefulness to the general public than be does as to others, but he believes them all to have been of incalculable benafit to the rural districts. Congress has passed the bill giving them an increase of salary, but in the opinion of the writer the restriction should have been left out of the bill. The restriction mentioned is that the carriers will not be allowed to lake subscriptions for newspapers, carry parcels, &c. Troupe. Pin Feathers. Poultry to be profitable must be well housed, well fed and welltreated. Hens will stay with their brood longer if their run is in a yard separate from other fowls. Improve your stock by buying some pure-bred fowls this year, or a few setings of eggs. , Make a pot pot-pie of a hen that eats eggs, ditto the feather-eater, and do it . before Bhe teaches the rest. ' In ordering seeds get a supply of sun. flowers, and plant, so as to have the i seed next winter to feed the poultry. Great quantities of grain and grass 1 seeds are"wasted annually. Give the sharp-eyed biddies a chance at me Darn noor litter. No food should be given young fowls ' until they are at least twenty-four hours old; too early feeding often caus' es bowel diseases that prove fatal. A flock of poultry well fed and cared for will return their owner at least fifty percent more for all kinds of grain than the miller or grain dealer will give him. By the liberal use of whitewash; in the spring and antnmn and the frequent application of coal oil about roosts, platforms, nests and walls, the lodgment of lice will be prevented. Raise chickens enough so that you can have poultry on your table every week in the year. Farmers might and ought to raise more of their living right on the farm. Turkeys, ducks, geese and guineas may be hatched in the incubator and . raised in the brooder as readily ae 1 chickens, so that in a majority of cases p it can be kept running until June. L When you build the fence of wire npt dn nnt qHH Q roil of t\\C* fnn r\C fhe k > " ? ? ? ?* "? kuv ""H u' ' net, Stretch a wire if needed. The birds Boon learn to fly over the rail because they can see it plainly. When setting hens, mark the date ol setting and of expected hatching on each egg with a pen and ink, thus: April 9-30. Then you do not need tc refer to any memorandum, but can tell at a glance all about them. No one likes to seem unneighborly, but when a breeder has been at great pains to attain excellence in his flock it seems a little unfair that bis acquaintances should ask to exchange eggs, or seem to think him extortionate if he a9ks more for his eggs than thej get for theirs. Some hens seem to be always above the standard of the flock. They are bright, active, happy, healthy and moult early and quickly. They begin to lay before the others, and keep it up all winter and spring. They should be separtated and bred from exclusive1 iy. f When on the Ptrpct drop In at Mllford'i and (jet the latest game out "Pit."
