Tuesday night as the townspeople lay fast asleep in their little beds midnight niaranders felt) their way through the darkness and piece by piece the various parts of the vilibge prison were laid upon the "ground until not one plank lay upon another. The town council viewed the remains and wondered how and when another could be built, only this and nothing more. The work of destruction is supposed to have been done by wanderers on the way from Buffalo to Charleston, or possibly by Bulgarian brigands that have not been seen wandering over the byways and highways leading to this quiet country village.
