McCracken died on Thursday, November 7,1901, at her home In Wllllngton, B.C. Mrs McCrackeu was Miss Lizzie Town end ot Aiken, 8. C.,an accomplished lady; and when some ten years ago the faml j moved from the low country and settled Id this county, she soon attracted about her many friends among tboae who could appreciate her sterling worth and many admirable qualities of het?rt and mind. Tbese wltb many In other parts of the State, where she was well known and extensively connected, will be truly pained to bear or her death. She has been In delicate health for a loog time; yet with great fortitude she bravelj contended with disease to the last day. Tbe wasting forces failed rapidly of late, aDd wlib a Doble Christian faith sbe surrendered thai life which seemed so necessary to the bappl' oess of others. There are some strokes of affliction's rod which leave a wound too deep loreven time to heal. Some four or five years since, the oldest son of the family, a beautiful lad of fourteen summers was snatcbed away from an idolizing mother. In a tragic death by drowning. From that day tbe mother-lift was never again what It had been. No doubt tbe beginning of tbe end was thus marked ; and a useful life, an affectionate nature, a devoted wife and mother passes away, leaving an anguish unspeakably deep upon a strlckeu family of father and five children. God comfort them. Mr. McCracken is one of Abbeville's most estimable citizens, a man in tbe prime of usefulness; and in this severe bereavement be ' tk?.
