The caase or death was heart trouble from which he had ^- nffoifd for years. Tbls was sad Dews to uh all as he was well known here. He,wasagood, hlgbtoned,Christian gentleman, and will be greatly missed. Mr. J- M. Baker, of Washington, D. C., has spent tbe past few days with the family of his father, Mr.T. Baker. Mr. aDd Mrs. O. It wonld be very helpful to the good ladles and the ,?v< good men, too. Something of the kind 1b badly needed. Many ladies and gentlemen h V.' are obliged at times to go to .the towns on II business whleb they can attend to in a few w minutes, but may be compelled to stay for >-' Nseveral hours, with a good resting room . these conld pass over the, which would otherK wise bang very heavy upon them, In peace a and quiet. There were about two hundred tickets sold at this point. About nine-tenths of which were bought by the darkles. Tbe above by no means Includes all I who went to tbe show from thlB section. A number of others went by the dirt road. Home even went afoot. The travel Andersonward began sometime In tbe day Sunday, and continued at Intervals during tbe night. One poor darkey from about Latimer attempted to "beat" his way on tbe tralD, and at Starr he fell and bad about half of bis foot cut oil . by the oar wheel, and was carried back to his i borne on tbe freight train. Mrs. J. W. Huckabee and her son, MaglsRv trate J. ti. Huckabee, went to Anderson last S' week and ) emalneil for several days. Mr. J. E. Allen left Saturday morning for ?. WttsbinKton, D. We had several bad rains last week. They were heavy enough to swell the smaller Rtreams consid *rably. We hear of some, be& cause of overllows In June, who bad their corn entirely Jestroyed upon their bottom ' lands, and whc later on sowed the same lands to peas and the heavy rains of last week caused other overflows which badly damaged tbe peas, so much so as to make them not ' ' worth cutting. i About three weeksago this wrlterrodea few I fXnllee In the country, and he saw acres of , large cotton tbat had been plowed up, and L the land sowed to oats, which showed that ' the crop had bjen gathered. Such a thing he never taw before at so early a date. From report! from all quarters it lslearoed that there is yet but little cotton to pick. In places there is the most luxuriant growth upon cot' - ton ever before known at this date, but such growth is confined to rich spots. Upon greatly tbe larger part of tbe area in cotton there Is very little new growth, so that even two or three months delay in a killing frost wonld add but little to the crop of l'J0<>, so lar as this I section is concerned. .Mr. und Mrs. B. Cunningham died on last Tuesday at talB home in this plaoe at' 11 a. m. He was born but a few miles from this place on Oot. 28,1817. It will be seen from the abovo date that he would have been 83 years of age if he bad lived till last Saturday. The whole of hlB long life was spent in this section, and the most of that Hie was Bpent in the aervloe of his Master, having been a member of Rooky River Presbyterian ohurob since his earlv days. He was twloed married, first to Miss Frances Moore. Only one child ol that union still lives, Mr. W. T. Cunningham. In 1850 he married Miss Augusta 81monds, of Charleston, by whom he nad foar children, all of whom are dead. His early manhood days were spent In thfe mercantile business In this place. In fact he wasonepf pioneers In that line of business in tblt en-! tire section, having been aatfoolated as clerk with Mr. Matthew Young, who was the first one to sell goods in this place. He leaves a good reoord behind him. HI? conduct was each as to have made buV,"Very few, if any, enemies. His closest long Intimates in their oft Intercourse with him failed to discover Htytblng but the same equable temper t *r\ trnnA a snlrit of abuse or hard feeling towards any one.
