The services yesterday at 11 a. m., at the

that there was no preaching, The hour was

by calling those who had joined the church
during the union meeting and since?sixteen
in number?to the front. He delivered there
In a condensed form, an explanation ot the
rules and requirements of the church, baptised
those who bad not been baptised and re

baptised the baby girl'or Mr. B.C.Kay. He
then administered the sacrament^to a large
number of communicants. It Is somewhat
unusual, as waK the case yesterday, for there
to be a sufficient number lo whom tnesucrament
was administered of those just received
into the church to till the chancel rail. All
who have Joined came up from the Sunday
Sohool, which shows the Importance of this
part of Church work.
Our long and destructive drought was ended
Friday evening. For nearly two hours a
splendid rain was falling yet the ground bad
become so very dry that it was by no
means a ground soaker, but it will no doubt
be of service to the late corn, check the opening
prematurely of cotton and give us a
chance to sow turnip seed. For miles around
the good effects of it can be seen and feltClouds
of dust no longer fill the air, the heat
has been rouoh lessened and we all feel better
and are thankful. Troupe.

Things to Avoid on the Farm.
There are a good many foolish things
in this world, and tbese a few of them :
To wioter calves around a straw stack
and iu the spring find fault with their
pot bellies and curved backs ; to yell
at the cow as though she were deaf
and emphasize it with a whack from
the milking stool; to trade stale butter
for groceries brought home in a
jug and which are usually denominntoH
wot. crrnnerie.q : to keeD scrubs
and despise pedigree ; to drive cows
with a dog and plant potatoes in the
dark of the moon when it is known
that the bug is no respector of the seasous
; to go to a fair aud spend the
greater portion of the time in the side
shows ; to let the hens roost on machinery
for which a note hasbeen given ;
to put off fixing the ditch until irrigating
seasons come on ; to let grass get
jdead ripe before making into hay; to
sit down aud say, "I have no luck
to say that you have forgotteu more
(about farming than the papers ever
i knew. There are others.
It is well to distrust the value of
any associations that lessen your relish
for the exercises of religion.
War aud Christianity are like the
opposite ends of a balance, of which
oue is depressed by the elevation of
the other.
