Tlie parade fooled a multitude yesterday. Tbey assembled on Main Street, confidently expecting to see the great procession. Wheu It was learned that the gaily company went around a back street, while nobody was looking thai way, tbe expressions of dlsicust and disappointment were somewhat emphatic. Speaking for oar own part, we think it was a real pity to have as nice a parade escape the vision ol the expectant crowd. The parade ia tills show, as in other shows, was the greatest and best part of the exbibitlou. o STRAY BASE BALL, k , Uoen Wild and IIKm ? l'retly Yoiiiik I.Htly oil tlie Su*f. } The Almighty iu his inscrutible providence performs miracles, and he allowB the sous of men Incidents and accidents which are contrary to the precepts of our short-sighted wisdom. He sometimes allows a sparrow to be stricken down, while a larger and more tempting bird escapes the wiles or the arts of the hunter. Iu like manner he allows the best of earth to sutler while many a less deserving person is healthy, happy and in the full flush of the beauty of young womanhood. A striking instance of this mysterious Providence was exemplified yesterday evening at the base ball ground, when a mlssent ball went flying into space, without apparent object or aim. Jt struck one of the prettiest young indies square on the face and nose, when it might just as well hit an Idle white boy or a trifling negro. The young lady was carried home, and It Is thought she will soon be all right again, fully ascharming and entirely as attractive as ever. ABBEVILLE WINS ANOTHEK. Tbe Visitor* Can't Hit tiilrealb and I,o*e the Second Game by a Score of Nine to One. It was tbe same old atory again yesterday? couldn't bit Gllreath?and tbe visitors went down before our boye to tbe tune of nine to one. Betzll and Sulliv^b were tlie battery for Greenwood, and both did nice work, but poor support aocOunts for a good many of Abbeville's runt^Had they gotten the proper support the Bcore would probably have been two to oue In our favor. Uilreath and Cleveland did the battery work for Abbeville, and (iilreath had the visitors guessing until the eighth inning, when two singles allowed the th* visitors the only score iney maae. Keiers, Miewari, uaniman, Jenkins, Hill and Giles all played good ball and gave Gllreatb good support through the entire game Abbeville got nine hits off of Betzil. and Greenwood got four off of Gilreath. The visitors promise to put up h irood game to-day. and a good crowd should be out to see Abbeville win again. ~ To arrive this week at Hsuldon's: 1 case white India Unons, 1 case staple notions, 1 case AudroNooKan blenched homespun, 1 case millinery.
