Floods of water during the last week have ruined the crops, aud lauds are badly washed. The harvesters are discouraged over the condition of their grain. We were glad to have our aunt, Miss Sue McL'aslan, of Cedar Springs, with us last week. She Is one of our loveliest womenMiss Janle Kennedy came down from Kellvue to see many kindred last week. iiu, IUI IUC CAVHin.vu vu n?iu?w.v, - 23d, from here to Augusta for only Co cents. It will be managed in an orderly manner by Messrs. Prestiss & Lites. Mrs. Mary Napier, of Greenwood, Is here to summer amougst the Trojans and enjoy the mineral water. An organ has been put In the A. Mrs. Henry Smart and Miss Mystls left Wednesday for l'endleton to see their sister, Mrs. J. P. Singleton. On next Saturday, the 16th, eight hundred pleasure seekers and rest from hard work will come up from Augusta and spend the day here under the majestic oaks and leafy bowers of our cool shady park. The pavilion has been enlarged and the "Merry go round" will be the leading feature, but swings and croquet, and we "spec' courting" will predominate. All the candidates and everybody else have a cordial Invitation to come, and bring your dinners and join us on that day. We were Invited to Miss Mollie Russell's to eat cherries, and we hardly know how to express it as to the quantity. The trees are al most breaking down, and they are there by wagon loads. Indeed It was the prettiest sight and the greatest treat. We left with all we could carry, for which she has our sincere thanks. Messrs. W. C. Robinson and J. C. Davis will soon leave for Texas to Bpend a month among relatives. News from there tell of destructive floods and travel almost Impeded. The Brazos River, on which '.hey live, Is ten miles wide In planes, and corn a total failure. Rev. W. W. Jones has secured the service of Rev. W.T. Mr. H. B. Allen took a business trip to Bordeaux on Monday. Miss Edna Norryce, of Anderson, came down Monday and has spent since then witb friends at the Kay House and In the country. Mr. and Mrs. Ardrey Pressley, of Elberton, have spent the past week at the home of Mr. C. L. Cllnkscales, latber-ln-law of the 3rat named. It Is now probable that some of our planters will fall of getting some of their best lands, and upon which they mainly depend for their corn supply, planted in time to realize much profit. A little more tban two weeks a^o the very heavy rains so badly damaged their low lauds, upon which the corn was np and growing nicely, bad to be replanted, and high water again this week covered up the Mtter planting, and even if they are so fortunate as to have such conditions as they can again plant, nothing like an ordinary yield may be expected, but they will no doubt try it again. Two weeks ago handbills were sa&ttered along the Savannah Valley railroad, stating that on yesterday a week ago, an excursion train lor negroes would be run frOm Anderson to Mt. Carmel, and all were urged to take advantage of Hand "spend the 1st Sunday In June" at that "beautiful little city in song and praise.'' it was liberally patronized. Some of the songs, from reports received, partook more or the baccanillan than Bacred nature, and praise was more of self tban of the Dlety. These excursions are becoming quite a menace to the peace and happiness of our our country. They are almost always productlveof bloodshed. Some blood was spilled at the meeting In the valley town and It Is probable that there would have been a much more serious time, but nearly all of Mt. Carinel's male citizens happened to be away that day. It Is a pity but that these excursions could be stopped altogether, or better con trolled. ~ Troupe. SPECIAL OCCASIONS.
