Mr. Tom Liddell, of Abbeville, came up yesterday a week ago, bringing his sister, Miss Annie Liddell, who had been away for sometime. Mr. James M. Baker, of Washington, D. C., came in last Sunday on a business trip. Hon. and Mrs. A. C. Latimer and their little baby, came over from Belton Monday, and spent several days among kinsfolk In and around here. Drs. Speer and Henry, and Messrs. J. C. Thomas ana J. W. Harden went to Anderson Tuesday evening to be present at and witness the ceremonies or the laying of the comer stftne ot tbe new Court House, wmcu is oeing built at that place. Mr. C. E. Horlon, of Mt. Carmel, came up Tuesday /or a day or two off from ills duties as lelegraph operator. Mouday and Tuesday were cold, disagreeable days. Tuesday was especially so as it rained all day. Mrs. Tom'Hill. of Anderson, came down the week before last, aud Mr. Hill came down Monday. Mr. J. \V. Jones, who was here for sometime our depot agent, a week or two ago returned to his former home la Laurens. Mr. J. Sl*trunk, of Mt. Carmel, is now our depot agent. Mr. W. H. Shanklln, of Laurens, was here for a day or two the tirst of last week, shaking hands with his many friends. There wasa drove of wild geese passed this point last week going south. In last week's Press and Manner this writer gave as an Item of news that Mr. \V. D. I'ooly lias sold his mercantile interests in this place to bis brother, Mr. T. D. Cooley, which wasa mistake. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Hays, of Elberton, came over Saturday on a visit to the family of Mr. T. Baker. Messrs. J. J. Johnson and It. C. Moseley, ol Abbeville, came up yesterday morning and returned iu (.ueir pwi ui uuij tuu?> The Dew oil mill of Augusta, Ga? ban built a large bouse near the depot, in which to put the cotton seed bought by its agents, Messrs. Harper a Latimer. Mr. and Mrs. Will Harden were much saddened last Monday by the death of their little babe. lis remains were buried in Providence . cemetery. I Since my last a social event of considerable importance and interest occurred In 1hi> place, a brief outline of which will now be given. About fifty of us were houored with an invitation to the hospitable and elegant home of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Latimer to witness the nuptials of Mr. \V. C. Tennent and Miss Katie Kay. This happy eveut tooK place at 5:30 p. m. At that hour the spectators being assembled in the handsome parlor Mis?Zula Brock at the organ, giving the wedding march, herulded the approach uud incoming of the bridal party. First Mr. Will Armstrong and Miss Mamie Bowman entered and * took position to the right. Next Mr. Karl Allen and Miss Sallie Cater came iu aud stood to the lelt. These were closely followed by the bride and groom, who placed themselves between the two couples, wh i had preceded them, and directly in front of the officiating minister, Uev. H. C. Fennel, who In a plain, practical, impressive manner united them In the holy bonds of wedlock. An hour or two were then whlled away as such occasions call for and are productive of. Then we were shown to the dining room wnere we louna uie uioies uiHiuiuiiy uecoraied with beautiful stand* of fruits, luterspersed with evergreens and flowers. The tirst course consisted of the more substantial adjuncts to the least. These were supplemented by the niceties which the hostesses knowing so well how to prepare had bountifully provided to suit the taste and requirements of all of the participants. The bride and groom were given a separaie table in an alcove separated iroru the dining room by handsome lace curtains gracefully looped back, and which being trimmed with sprigs of evergreen made an attractive appearance. Alter the wants of all were supplied, sometime was consumed In social converse characteristic of such gatherings, the guests returned to their homes, no doubt having such pleasing recollections of the occasion as time cannot dispel. It will not be amiss to add to the above (hat those whose marriage was solemnized had ft variety and number of handsome and costly presents given to them as a token of tbe love and esteem of their relatives and friends. These were arranged on a table In the hall, each with the name of the donor upon It. Mr. Tennent Ik the oldest son ol one ol our most substantial planters, is a member of the firm of Allen at Tennent one ol our rru-Kt en terprlsing, energetic, up-to date business houses. Allss Kay Is the oldest daughter of Mr. B. C. Kay. proprietor of the Kay bouse, as well as a large planter. This young couple start in life with bright prospects, and to them are extended the heart-felt congratulations of the k entire community. k The word hostesses above used needs some explanation. The above marriage took place ~ at ^lr. A. L. Latimer's house, because it was more suitable, more commodious than the Kay bouse, which is situated near by, and therefore much of the credit of the admirable arrangements and appointments is due to Mrs. Kay as well as Mjs. Latimer. The next day Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Tennent gave a splenuld dinner to the bridal party. Troupe. EYE GLASSES. Dr. Lowe, the Oculist. Hill Examine Your Eyes Free of Chitrer.
