We are In receipt ol the following liberal ol- ' fer to publish a "foreign ad,,: which is a sam- l pie of mauy that comes to this office. In ad- * dition to publishing the ad every paper is re- ] / quired to send a copy of every issue for the year. The surprising thing to us Is that this k same advertisement appears in a number of L our exchanges. Of course no editor who would undertake such a contract can have a C profitable local business. The acceptance ol ^ such contracts precludes the possibility of a good business, and not one of the editors who publish these ads would let a local advertiser { know how he was being imposed upon by the i higher charge for less valuable work. Here is the letter: s "We can place with you an order to run two Inch advertisements of the Browns' Iron Bitters Co., one year, in your weekly edition, 52 t times. Conditions: ;l First?Position to be anywhere except t among displayed advertisements. Second? There will be seven one Inch electrotypes, any two of which may be used, see o remarks below. Third? It Is desired that you keep the advertisements as far apart as possible, and whenever convenient, on diflereut pages. For this service we can pay you five dollars, less usual commission of 25 per cent. Special remarks: * Understand above price covers 52 two-inch insertions. Any issue in which but one inch appears, only pro rata will be allowed. r We cnnnot allow for more than two inches in any Issue. By sending seven electros, we aflord you the means of changing copy frequently it such be your wishes and convenience. Most publishers prefer, and advertisers appreciate changes lu copy. We ask your prompt acceptance upon the inclosed postal by return mail. . Yours very truly, 1 N. W. Ayer and Son. LOWNDESVILLE ITEMS, \ An Old Firm Dissolve Partnership? This writer having been from home for the past two weeks has had but little chance of gathering In the arrivals and departures, therefore hopes that none of the outgoers nor Incomers will feel themselves slighted. From Indications along different roads It Is quite evident that the past two or three weeks of dry hot weather have materially lessened the cotton crop. It seems to bo nearly all open and picked out, except In few and far be tween places. The nice little rain which fell here yesterday evenin^will relieve for a short time at least the dusty part of the sltuatlou, and now If something would come along and give us better prices for the crop we would be so glad. Messrs. Allen & Cooley who have been con ducting quite a large and remunerative mercantile business iu this place for several years have dissolved copartnership. The business will be continued at the old etand by Mr. D. K. Cooley. Mr. Will Thompson, of Sumter, Is clerking Lfor Mr. D. K. Cooley. Mr. L. J.
