While on his way from McCormick on Saturday evening. January 10,1897, Mr. .Guilford Stark Cade, 01 Bordeaux township, met with a sudden death. He had driven irom McCormick with Mr. Allen Moragne to the house oi the latter, and leaving him there, set out for his own home, taking a short cut which was quite rough. It Is not known how it happened, but, whether from a stroke of apoplexy or from some other canpe, he fell fjora his road cart, and at some time between 8and 9 o'clock p. m. was found by some negroes quite dead, and fastened in some way Id his cart, so that bis bead and bands and arms and upper part of bis body were dragging along upon the ground. On examination it was found that he had been dragged by the horse for some distance. A severe bruise behind his left ear was the only wound he had received. Tbe absent members of the family and friends were summoned as soon as possible. As soon as the distressing news spread neighbors and friends began to assemble. Three physicians. Doctors Hester, o! Mount Carmel, Link, of Wellington, and Robinson, of McCormlck, were summoned and made an examination and reported tbeir con I elusions to a Jury of inquest which was held under tbe supervision of Trial Justice Sanders, of McCormlck. The Jury decided that the deceased met his death "by accident or misfortune." The funeral services were held at St. Stephens cburcb, Wlllington, at 8 p. m. Monday, January 18th, 1897, Rev. 0. T. W Rykard, of this place, died near Greenwood of oold and grip Tuesday morning, January 19. 1897, aged 65 years. Mr. James Searigbt, aged89years, now lie at his home near Donnaldsvllie, sick of grip and Is threatened with pneumonia. He 16 at honest man, a faithful and sincere friend.
