Ar' r~' DUE WEST DOTS. Things Which Were Seen or Heard by Our Keporler. Due West, S. CM Jan.IS'JT. Died at Due West, ot? the night of January 1, 1897, Mr. Frank Lee. son of l'rof. Jo6. F. Lee. of this place. Mr. Lee had been a great sufferer for several months past with cancer of the stomach, and his death was not unexpected. After the funeral services were over, which were conducted by Rev. 0. V. Bonner Sabbath morning, bis remains were carried to the Episcopal cemetery at Abbeville for interment. Kev. 0. Y. Bonner being absent preaching in the country, Mr. L. I. Ecbols, of the Seminary, conducted services Sabbath morning. There will be services every day this week in the A. R. P. church from lour to five o'clock, except Wednesday evening, wueu tbey will be held in tbe Baptist church at half past seven o'clock, Rev. Dr. Gardner, ol Greenville, officiating. The sick about town are improving. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pratt gave a dining to their daughter, Miss Maude, last week, and a Dumber of friends were present. Mr. and Mrs. Ware, of Greenville, have been visiting friends In town. Mr. M. B. McGee and Miss Lucia were down from Houea Path. Mrs. J. M. Ellis and children are in Greenwood. The young folks have all returned to their post of duty. Mr. MoflatGrier left for Atlanta. Mrs. H. C. Poore was called by telegram Friday to Atlanta on account of her mother's Illness. Miss Viola Poore returned from Newberry Wednesday where she had been enjoying the holidays. The friends of John Armstrong were glad to see him on our streets agaiu. Miss Mary Mattox is in town. Mr. Pearson, of Spartanburg, is visiting his family here. Mr. H. P. McGee goes to Greenwood today from thence to Yorkville. 4 The Misses Nance, of Abbeville, have been on a visit to friends In town. John and Miss Corrie Haddon, of Antreville, have been visiting Miss Lemmie Trlbble. Miss Willie Wardlaw, one of Abbeville's pretty young ladles, is on a visit to friends in town. Just fifty-one persons took part in tht Christmas dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. J V. Anderson. Mr. George Steifle and sister, Mlss Iva, 01 Bradley, spent New Year's night at the borne of Mr. Parker Atkins. The young folks bad quite a pleasant time Christmas week, bad a party nearly every night. The turkey shooting at Sal-Ak wound up in a fight, but nobody was seriously hurt. Owing to the cold weather during Christ mas week Mr. J. V. Anderson and his brothei fox hunters did not find an opportunity oi getting up a race. Lagrlppe Is quite prevalent In this vicinity, Mr. Mcllwaln and family from near Abbeville attended tbe marriage of Mr. John Darrah aud Miss Lizzie Cobb, which took place at Greenwood last Wednesday. Mr. J. V. Anderson is the boss turkey hunt er of this section. Last year he killed seven, six of which were Que goblers. Miss Janie Lou Hntcbison, the popular and efficient teacher of the Brierwood School, resumed work Monday, alter giving two weeks holiday. Tbe new post office here is quite a convenience to tbe people of this community. No better postmaster could have been selected than Mr. James T.Anderson who Is always at bis post of duty and spares no pains to accommodate bis patrons. Mr. Arch Langley and .Miss Bessie Mtoion, of the Pine Grove neighborhood, were hap plly united in marriage Christmas eve at the residence of the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. R. Hlnton, Rev. W. B. Wharton officiating. Mr. X. O. Pyles was In the neighborhood last week visiting among his old friends. Dr. Barrett i6 doing a fine practice in this community. Mr. Aiken Stacy is visiting relatives in Greenville. Mr. Walter Codle is one among the best track men on the A. & K. railroad. Mr. Robert Nickels and family, of Laurens, were on a visit to their parents Christmas week. Mr. John Rykard moved to his farm near Phoenix last Tuesday. He is a good man and will be much missed from this neighborhood. Mr. and Mrs. James Allen Nickels have moved to the Bert Riley place near Greenwood. Mr. Olin Rykard has a position as fireman on the shifting engine at Greenwood. Rev. George Davis and family recently spent a week with his mother, Mrs. Rykard atSal-Ak. PETIT JURORS. I'se Kerosene for Jinny Pur- J |IUNVN To cleun windows and mirrors add a tablspoonful of headlight or karosene oil to a gallon of tepid water. A polish will remain on the glass that no mprp friction <?nn {^ive. To remove truit stains saturate the staius with kerosene, rub thoroughly with baking soda and leave in the sun. To remove paint from any kind of * cloth saturate the spot with kerosene 1 and rub well. Repeat if necessary. To clean brass stair rods, brass bed steads and other brasses, rub with kerosene and rotten stone, put on with a soft cloth and polish with a dry cloth, j soft paper or chamois. To remove rust from kettles or other ironware rub with kerosene and let f them stand. Keep a day and then t wash with hot water and soap, repeat- j ingif neccessary. Tarnished lamp burners may be rendered almost as good as new by boiling * them in water to which a teaspoonful of soda and a little kerosene have been a added. Then scour with kerosene and j scouring brick, and polish with cha- ( Ci. l a. l mois or son learner. To clean iron work rub with a cloth < dampened with kerosene.
