For more than a hundred years the people of Abbeville have been using the Upper Long Cane Cemetery as a place for the burial ol their dead, aud we presume that many of our people will nse that place for such purpose tor a hundred years yet to come, but with the advaucini: years has beeu developed the desire as well as the necessity for other or larger burying grounds. The company have a nice tract of land including about ten acres, at. the intersect ion of the IJaruett's ltrldue rond with the Anderson road, and have had the same laid oil'in walks and drives, so as to make the place as pretty as possible. The distance from the Court House is less than two ? lies and Just outside tlie city limits. The drive to the new cemetery is one of I lie prettiest in the city, but for all that It is hoped that the good Lord may prolong the 11 ves of our people, so that IIKTJ UTO1 nu? While ou the subject of cemeteries It might not tie utulss to suggest lhat the city council consider the propriety of passing an ordinance prohibiting the burial of bodies within the Incorporate limits. That a grave yard may make the water Impure we presume Is not to be doubted bv any one, while we all Know that Impure water is the source untold injury to the human family. A great number of bodies are burled within the coriwtmlo llmilw TI>p tint hnrillcfi thnrnfnvp should look lifter the welfare of the people. Patriotic and good citizens should see and recognize the danger of interment in the neighborhood of our springs and wells, and readily cousent to the change ot their burial ground. A Krenl many citizens 1101a tne graves as sacred, and carefully guard and take care of tlie same. To all such the new cemetery company oiler the best security against trespass and desecration. They will sell small lots, conveying the right by title deed, so that the parties may own their burial places for all time to come. Let people and city consider the propriety ot stopping all Interments within the city limits, (food citizens should not object to that which is best for the welfare of the living. nuTrnr a o a w ntr a m uxixuiv/ion. *v uu/ii. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson are well known as genial host and per'ect. hostess, and the pleasure afforded their guests on Wednesday night did not roar their reputation. Four handsome rooms, the hall nnd brightly lighted veranda were thrown open to the guests and the young people danced awhile, then talked of the past, present and future, and of happy nothings, as young people will do. At Intervals between the dances the most delli'lous ices and cakes were served.
