Lomnx, Sr. After a lingering Illness John W. Lomax, senior, in tbe Smilbvilie neighborhood, died Thursday evening, January 30. 1896, aged 85 years. He was an excellent citizen, always a g<>od neighbor, correct and kind in bis business transactions, and possessed tbe love and respectofall those who knew him. He was a member of Ebeuezer Methodist church, and bis body was laid to rest in the cemetery. Rev. Wharton officiated at the funeral, snd a large company was present at tbe burial. In many respects Mr. Lomax was a remarkable man, and bis noble traits of character are a rlcb heritage to tboee who lollow him. At Home. Mrs. Ida Bonner and daughter have returned home. They have been absent for sometime visiting friends and relatives in Anderson County. We bave heard it suggested that the public would enjoy an exhibition of Prof. Bell's department. The public would be fully gratified most any time, as we learn there are frequent exhibitions in Prof. Bell's department. Mr. Walter Devlin of Verdery is in town. a negro and a pistol. On the evening of January 21st long before the hour tor the exercises to commence the crowd began to fill the beautiful hall. On the left were the fair maids of the Due West Female Collese, while on the right were the students of Erskine. All were anxiously awaiting the hour for the exercises to begin. At last It arrived, and as the Edwards quartette played a beautiful march, the participants entered the hall. The exercises were opened with prayer by Rev. Dr. Grler. After which the President made the address of welcome. It was simply grand, one of the most Interesting features ot theoccasion was the debate.
