The Farmer and the Newspaper Man.?Many men think that news-| i paper men are persistent dunners. By I way of^ comparison let us suppose | tHat a farmer raise i,wu ousueis 01 wheat a year and sells this to 1,000 per- \ sons in all parts of the country, a great portion of them saying, "I will Hand you a dollar in a short time." The farmer does not want to be small and says all right. Soon the 1,000 bushels are gone, but he has nothing to show for it, and then he realizes he has fooled away his whole crop, and its aln&ttoMmJs due in a thousand little driblets, consequently he is seriously embarressed in nia business, because bis debtors, each owing him a dollar, treat it as a email matter and think it would not help much. Continue this kind of business year in and year out, 00 ViAtir lnnw will W3 UUO pU MUDUCl UWO, MVTT ? ? he stand it? A moment's thought will convince any one that a publisher has cause for persistent dunning. ' Blessed is the man whose sins are covered." This blessedness depends wholly on how the sins are covered and who covers them. "He tbat coven his own sins shall not prosper." These two coverings, though they y may in some ways and from some eyes * hide our sins, are infinitely different. For God to oover our sins is a great blessing. To oover our own sins is a great ouree.?Nashville Ch. Ad. Edward Bok's successful article In ? the January "Cosmopolitan" on "The Young Man in Business" has been reprinted in a tasteful and handy booklet form at 10 cents by The Curtis . Publishing Company, of Philadel phia. To this reprint Mr. Bok has - i * tkUUOU HUUID 11 [JHgCS <11 cuiivuai iubiter answering "Three Uncertain Young Men." For the sake of humanity, it is devoutly,to be wished that the manly bl employments of agriculture, and the ai humanizing benefits of commerce, should supersede the waste of war and the rage of conquest; that swords ^ might be turned into plowshares, anj) as the scripture expresses it, the n nations learn war no more.-George Washington, 1788. Seignorage is the difference between _ the lace value of the coin and the ~ amount of bullion in its comnosition. For instance the bullion in *a silver dollar is worth about 60 or 70 cents, so ? about 30 oenta go to the Government. ^ The cost; of minting is not taken into ? consideration. Jo^ge McAdam, of New York, has decided that a newspoper has no right to publish pictures of persons without their oonsent. This is a righteous decision against one of tho most offensive impertinences of modern newspaper enterprise. A Glance at local option in operation in Illinois shows that the prohibition town of Pullman, with a population of eleven thousand, gets along admira* ble with a police force of but two con- J stables in all. I A Big Difference.?The same man who spits out words that burn if he has to hold the baby two minutes while its weary and heart sick mother steps out to get a taste of sunshine, will stand all da v in the water up to v his kqee^and hold a fish pole without v a murmur, just because one is fun and the other is duty. sneep are aocue, easily nanaiea am- j mala, which will thrive on a great 1 diversity of food and require less grain than any other stock.
