Lindsay of Walterboro and Mrs. J. 0. Lindsay, of Due Went came In Tuesday, 10 visit the family of Rev. H. C. Fennel, hrnthpp.in.lftw of the former and Bon-ln-law of tbe latter. Miss Ida Vail of Chicago, and Mrs. G. Garrison of Elberton, spent the greater part of last week with tbe family of Dr. ?. A. Henry. Mr. W.B. Stone of Augusta, representing the Mutual Benefit Lite Insurance Company, speut several days of last week lu tbls com* in unity. Mrs. K. H. Smith of Aui<u6ta, arrived Saturday, to spend the summer with the family of her father, Mr. J. B. LeRoy. Rev. Marlon Gassaway, of Anderson, filled tbe pulpit In the Baptist church here yesterday, in the absenoe of the pastor, Rev. R. J. Williams, The latter part of the week before last, there ?M a man in our community professedly hailing from Abbeville, who spent tbe night with one of our darkey citizens. He was arrested the next day at Cook's station, a few miles above here, as a horse, watch and gun thl?f, under Information from Augusta, Ga. After being arrested, be confessed to having borrowed the above mentioned property, and he was taken to Augusta and turned over to the propper authorities, a reward of fifty dollars having been oCTered for his apprehension. Mr. E. R. Horton has bought the store and lot owned by Mr. A. L. Latimer. The store was formerly occupied by Messrs. Harper <fc Latimer, as a millinery, and will enlarge and improve me noose 10 a Deuer aiming 01 nis purposes in wblub to do businP6s and wilt occupy it, on or about the first of September. Mr. J. T. Latimer intends to at once begin tbe building of a two story concrete store, on tbe lot upon wbicb his store was burned sometime ago, and expects to move into it about September 1st. Mrs. J. B. Mosley pulled from a vino in her garden a few days ago, a tomato wbicb weighed one pound and seven ounoeu. Who can beat it. The Rev. L. C. Vass of tbe Independent Presbyleriau cbnrcbof Savannah>Ga.,sartled It is said, his congregation on tbe I8tb ult., by giving anew theory as to why many of the Railroads in Georgia and elsewhere were in the bands of Receivers, which was that tbe retribution of tbe Almighty was being visited upon them, for breaking the Sabbath day. There may be a great deal of truth In this. "Remember tbe Sabbath day to keep It boly" Is Divine Injunction and we don't tbink R. R. corporations can violate It wltb impunity, any more than private individuals. The planterbadaswe.il plow and hoe, the merchant keep open doors, the mechanic ply bis trade and every other avocation be Industriously pursued, as for tbe railroads to follow their trade. The Great I Am haB given to us six-sevenths of time In which to pursue our dally calling, and we should not try to cheat him out of tne other seventh, which he reaoiiMth tn hlmcAlf pDr. W. H. You can become a capitalist at once by laying by a small part of your yearly income and investing it in a Tontine policy of the Equitable Life For $20 you can instantly secure a capital of $1,000 (or for ?200 a capital of $10,000), thus acquiring an estate which you may leave to your heirs, or retain as a fund for your own support in old age, if your life be prolonged. Such a step will prompt you to save, will strengthen your credit, will increase your confidence, will preserve you from care and will give you lasting satisfaction. The Plan is Simple.
