Tliv Ncllnuliic Corner. Contractor Sprott lias completely changed the appearance of tlie huilding thai stood on that corner. The structure has been greatly Increased in lengtli. the old front has been taken out. and splendid plate gia<sand iron now till the space. Mr. Sprolt has also built an excellent warehouse In rear of the Mcllwalne cor ner, and is now finishing up a large and commodious building for Mr. Slmmuus to be occupied as a carriage repository. Mr. Sprott has also enlarged the Oil Mill and built the brick ginnery whose wheels have just commenced to turn. He has been kept quite busy for the last several months and we presume that he has other work ahead of him. Alliancc Notice. A line train of elegant coaches arrived at Greenwood at six o'clock Tuesday evening, September 30, at ti o'clock, over the G.. C. it N. bringing railroad officers, and their guests. They, together with many guests of the town, were banquetted last night in splendid style, and with great cordiality, The road will be open to-day for travel and Lpassenger traffic from our sister town to Monroe, N, C? and all intermediate points. L The Alston House. The Alston House is being renovate.l and nicely fitted up. The painting is no sliodv work?it Is flrst class?it is hand painted. A new fence will enclose it, and the old shed room will give ulace to a good piaz/.a,'making the old eye-sore a thiug of beauty and a place of comfort for the occupants. Off for the South Carolina I'niverslly. Mr. Luther C. Branyon of Honea Path left last Monday for the South Carolina University. He is an ambitious young man, and his father has just reason for the commendable pride which he lias in the son whom he would cducate. ? ? ? Mother's Jewels. Last Wednesday Miss Bessie Edwards, and Miss Eiiza Gambrell and Miss Ida Hammond ol this village, went to Columbia to attend the sessions of the Columbia Female College. Mrs. Edwards went with the young ladles to see them in comfortable quarters. Dk. T. A. LaFak. of l'ensakola, F!a., Is on u visit to his uncle, Mr. George W. Syfan of our town. He has been spending sometime in the mountains, and called to seo his relative. > For four years during the war he had charge of the South Carolina Hospital Bureau, which whs supported by the Ladles Aid Associations In all parts ot the Southern Confederate}'. lie has tnany records and recoilices of the war, some of which he will transfer to yie State officers to be placed In the archives ' if the State House. > The Doctor was In Abbeville village about thirty years ago, and he now can recognize neither the town nor the people as they were in 1851>. After a staying a day or two in town lie will visit his friend Mr. W. L. Durst at Green wood, and will then go to Charleston. The Doctor is a wonderful man, and has done good service for his lellowman, as the many testimonials in his possession will prove. Mr. J. T. Simmons is now receiving some of his vehicles for his Abbeville store, out the store will not be ready tor the exhibition of his goods before the 10th of the month. The competition In buggies and wagons will be so sharp this winter, that customers will be L drawn from long distances. Mb. C. L.
