Tax payers in Ninety-Six and Cokesbury townships are notified that the tax to pay the interest on tlie Bonds in aid or the Atlantic, Greenville and Western Railway Company, amounting to 2j mills in Ninety-Six and 3 mills in Cokesbury will be collected at the same time as the State and County taxes, and will be subject to the same penalties in case of nonpayment. In order to further the collection of the taxes and to accommodate the tax payers as far as I am able I have arranged the following schedule of appointments, and request the tax payers will take due notice thereof as the office at the Court House will necessarily be closed on those days: Verdcry, Tuesday, November 1st. Bradley, Wednesday, November 2nd. Troy, Thursday, November 3rd. McCormick, Friday, November 4th and Saturday morning till 11 o'clock. Bordeaux, Saturday afternoon, November 5th. Willington, Monday morning, November 7th until 12 o'clock. Lowndesville, Monday afternoon, November 7th from 2 o'clock and Tuesday, November 8th. Ml. Carmel, Wednesday, November 9th. Office at Court House the other days of that week. Ninety-Six, Monday, November 14th from arrival of down train until departure of up train next day. We visited the Poor House and find the- inmates well cared for, lewd practices are carried on there, th t should i>- .stopped, in other respects the institution H cheaply and well managed. Having visited the Couuty offices at the June term, all of which we found (?o neatly and well kept that we felt it unnecessary to visit them again. We ulso found the County Jail so well Kept at iliat time as to require no further attention from us While the roads of the County are passable,they are far from being in the condition that an intelligent and progressive people hould keep them. In the first place they are badly located running uu and down steep hills and crossing ravi es that might be, and should he avoidtd The road laws are good and well suited for the purpose tlscy were enacted and if properly executed the roads would be kept in good condition. We recommend that they be . ritfidiy enforced. In the matter of County and School funds there is a discrepancy of opmiou among the officials as to what amouut is due the County by the County Treasurer, the difference of their estimates being about fourteen ' -M hundred dollars. The Auditor and Treasurer each assures us that they are using their utmost endeavors to get the matter straight and we have no uouin iuey win succeeu in meir eiforts, it has been of such longstanding as to have parsed from under the jurisdiction of all existiug authorities, and we are informed that it will be neces- * sary to call upon the Legislature to empower a legal settlement, which we trust will be done.
