frV - !. . Help Ono Another. Let us all help ono another. And a heart of kindness show, As adown time's lloutiiif: river In the boat of life v*e row; And, thoiitrli rough may he the weather, And the sky be overcast, If we only pull together. We can brave the storm at last. Let us all help one another In misfortune's wintry clay. And he kinder stili than ever Kre earth's gift are snatched away. When briarht fortune smiles the morrow, Hollow hearts will fawn and cling, But when comes the night of sorrow Only true hearts eomf. rt bring. Let us all nelp one another, And do good where'er we can ; He that slights a needy brother Scarce deserves the name of man, For the one great law of nature. GRIER WRITES AN INTERESTING ACCOUNT OF HIS TRIP TO TEXAS. _ Whore He Went? The Friends Whom I He Met?The Country Which lie! Passed Over? The Towns Which He! Visited. Associate It/ formed Presbyterian. Leaving Lovelady on Tuesday night our next objective point was Harmony church, in Freestone county. The route to this place was circuitous. We must needs go through Pales-! tlno. This is a town of 'J.OOU or 10,OW inhabitants. Why it Is called Palestine we did not learn, possibly a large number or its busiress ! tnen are or were Jews; possibly there may be I some features of the surrounding country which might suggest to a vivid Imagination the sacred land of the East, or, possibly, very ' possibly the name was given without any very special reason. At any rate we are able to say that, without crossiug the ocean, we fe}>l'U ( H U J?Ut 1 II X Ult'MJIlt. HC JUiU'lIVU UIU city late at night, and were met at the train by Mr. Brice Robinson, who is engaged in the banking business. He placed us under oblif;:itious by his kind attentions during our sooum for the nicht. Wo regretted that an appointment for Wednesday night prevented a longer stay with him. His father, Rev. I). P. Robinson, is living with him. Mr. Robinson told us that Palestine had been greatly damaged by the railroad strike last spring. For a lull month 11H a single freight ear left the town. In all departments of business there was complete stagnation. That strike opened the eyes of the people to their dependence upon railroads. If it had continued a few weeks longer the question of subsistence would have become very serious. It is easy to see that such a crisis might be reached in the refusal of a railroad corporation to run its trains as would not only Justify but demand governmental Interference for the preservation of lift!. Early Wednesday morning we left for Oak wood, which is about 25 miles from Palestine. It is one of the nearest stations to Fairfield on the International Railroad, and at this point the friends had agreed to meet us. We stepped from the cars at Oakwood quite early in tiie day, and, as we were not to leave there until Thursday morning, we had an opportunity of writing letters and looking at the country. We found in this little village some Due West friends, who seemed glad to see us and gave us a cordial welcome?Mrs. Carrie Mavcs and her brother, Lester Haddon. These are children of our good friend, Mr. R. W. Haddon of this place. Mr. Mayes is au Alumnus of Erslcine and cherishes a warm feeling for his Alma Mater. He drove us out into the country and showed us some fine farms with good crops on them. But the siulu we enjoyed most was a lake, about one and a half miles wide and j sis miles long. It was a beautiful sheet of water, surrounded by a dense forest with its deep, quiet shade. What a restful scene it was ! We longed for time to throw in a book i and try our hand on some of the trout which are said to abound in the waters of this Tiberias. But our time was short. It was near ly sundown?we were three miles from town . and had an appointment topreaeh that night 1 in the village (Methodist) church, the only church in ibe place. Before beginning service that night we looked around to see the size of the audience. Our eyes lighted at once on Bro. Little who; had just arrived on the northbound train] with a detachment from Milam county, with; MiMl'lli.,1 Vnln.... I.. >1... ......... 111.; I? old Alabama friend, and was now on heri1 way to visit friends in Wilcox. They wore i: all going to Presbytey. It wits a delightful surprise. Just as the service was closing, the friends from Fairfield came in. They told us that we had a drive ahead us next day 01 about 20 miles, through deep sand ami in the hot sun. This suggested the propriety of early retirement and a good night's rest. We * ou<ht to have said that the congregation at ch irch was large and most attentive. The next morning (Thursday) there was an addition to our company on the arrival of the train, of Bro R. E. Patterson and Mr. Mitchell from Hardin; so that all told we nutn- ' bered thirteen souls in two wagons. The brethren were full of talk, and relieved the) tcdiousncss of the way with Interesting inci-j dents of Texas life and its early settlers. \Ve Jmssed through a pcor country, sandy, black-J1 aek land, with very few settlements. We were assured that the good country was ahead. We could readily believe It. Hut wo ' did get a drink of good "water?something hard to find in Texas. For once we wished i we had the capacity of a camel, that we might t ike in a week's supply. Late in the afternoon we drove into the town of Fairfield, which is the county seat of Freestone. We were assigned quurters at the home of Bro. T. J. Bonner, who has been for years in feeble health. In spite of his infirmities tie |, holds his own remarkably well. We enjoyed | ^nr> . iuiiiikii iiuu mini active work, ho has not lost 1 is interest in the church and its enterprises. He spoke earnestly of the mission In Mexico, and rejoiced at the progress of the work in that field. We trust he may yet regain his health and he privileged to preach again the gospel to the destitute places in those parts. 1 Woolen Piere Good* by the Yard. Call oil J.
