Miss Ropers is an educatod lady, of at-j tractive manners, and we hope that-she, and her husband may be nono the less; happy because of their misfortune. To Make Corn on Bottoms. Mr. J. Frank Keller of our county,! who is a famous corn grower, gives us this formula for working a crop planted on stubble, and we give it to the public. Last week we erred in stating that Mr. Henry Hammond died at the residence of his son Mr. C. V. Hammond. It was at the bouse of Mr. J. S. Ham mona tnatne aien, ana wnere ne received y the unceasing and untiring attention of a devoted son who seldom lell his bedside for the last few months of his life. < We misprinted Mr. John L. Addison < rs Mr. Jas. L. Adiison in the replie3 on the school question. There is no such man in Edgefield as Jas. L. Addison. It was John L. Addison, Esq., the lawyer at Edgefield, who kindly gave us an opinion on that subject. We had much rain yesterday. Those of our friends whose crops of small grain 1 are still exposed are distressed at the prospects. Much of the corn on bottom lands will be lost because of the continued rains, which prevent the land from being plowed. Mrs. William Verell died at Buck Level last week, aged 75 years. She was a consistent member of' the Methodist church. Her sudden death is an irreparable loss to her aged husband, with whom Bbe had lived for nearly fifty years. We expect to go to Due West Commencement to-day, and the reader may j expect something in reference thereto in , next week's issue of the Pre** and Ban-1 ner. As usual Abbeville will send a] delegation of her choicest citizens. The Doctor never married, yet he found abundant scope for the development of his noblest eneigies in amply pruvidlng for the wants of an affectionate mother and niece who bestowed upon him every kindness that their powers could command, in health, in sickness and to tt.c sad moment ot death.
