The merchants as a i nk' did less business than is usual on a Sale Pay SfiB^ at this season of the year, but still there seemc l no special reason for discouragement. Their customers are paying up better than was expected at one time, ami the mass of the people showed very little I si^ns of despondency at the short crops. Various estates were sold by the public officers, and some lands brought fair prices, while other lands were knocked off to purchasers at low figures. After land sales were concluded quite a number of mules and horses wore sold, the prices ranging higher than usual, though stock of all kinds may he treated for at prices much lower than heretofore. No new stock had yet come to market. Those animals bcingjsold were such mules and horses as the owners were willing to dispose of for economic or other reasons.
