On Saturday last, a number of the profe? ore, teachers and friends of ducntlo'n In Abbeville county met in the Court House for the purpose of organizing a Teachers' Institute. The Rev. L>r. Gricr of Due West was called to the chair, a..d he presided ovnr the meetings Mr. 8-. J. Graham of Abbeville acted as s?tcretary. .The need of organization was oommenud on oy Dr. Orier, Prof.. Hood, Mr. Benet, Mr. Graham and others, and it wan unanimously agreed to form an association to be known as tiie Teachers' Institute of Abbelb ville oountv. On motion, the Chair appointed a committee of three, consisting of Prof. i Hood. Mr. Grahahi and Mr. Lynch, whose duty it wa6 to dfaft a constitution. After some time thfcy reported, and submitted to the meeting a partial constitution, JuSt so much as was necessary for organization, which was adopted. Subsequently, the committee was mitdc a standing committee wifh instructions to draw up a complete constitution and report at the next meeting in July. Thclnstltute then adjourned to meet In the latter part of July, the exact day of meeting - not yet being decided on. The midsummer meeting promises to be ? most interesting one Rev.Dr. Grler will, as president, deliver an inaugural address. State Superintendent of Education. MaJ. Hugh S. Thompson, will " also address the Institute. Dr. Bonner, Prof. Hood, and other gentlomcn are expected to read papers on educa* tlonal subjects, which will be followed by open discussion. The railroad meeting at Lowndesvllle last week Was well attended, and ull seemed in earnesi In the work. It Is ptopo&ed to raise fifty thousand dollars by taxation on the townships through which thb road will pass from Anderson to tbe Greenwood and Augusta road. The amount is *6 small that he thinks tlie various townships along the line will readily vote the tax. It was at once comprehensive and exhaustive, chaste and ornate. The essayist spoke earnestly on the value of good Boclal association, and the associations gained by travel. The essay was followed by a long and animated discussion. After the usual refreshments the Club adjourned to meet next month at the house of Judge Thomson, on .which occasion W? H. Pursuant to adjournment a meeting of the corporators of the Savannah Valley Railroad was held In Masonic Hall this day. President Latliuer in the chair and W. W. Humphreys acting socretary, A call of the roll showing a majority of the corporators present, the secretary read the proceedings of the last meeting, which were approved.
