Others caine with the same kind feelings and commendable j u< motives bad also an eye to the immediate br good to be derived from the occasion by i at entering the contest in generous rivalry su for the very substantial premiums which mi the Executive Committee Lad authorized <lr the varioua committees to award to sue- *>f censful competitors. th< The day being cloudy and the roads ex being sloppy from the recent rains only de those who had articles to enter or place so on exhibition were here on Wednesday, tin but Thursday being a good day and the on muddy roads having becomo somewhat up drier, there was quite a good attendance i ou of our fellow citizens from all portions of lec the Couaty, and especially is this true of jut Due We*t and Cokesbury. Dr. lionner so< and about fifty young ladies from the Due rer West Female College, dressed in their riv "suit of blue" made quite an attractive feature of the occasion. There were also ( a large number of vonnjf gentlemen stv present from Krsklne, but as they came f0'r down "loose" and not in an organized er, bodv, they did not attract quite as much -of the admiration of the bachelors as the ,in( venerable Doctor's charming pupils. The Rp, citizen's of Dae West also turned out en tj,, maMc, and did themselves and the occa- fu| *ion honor. stv THE LADIKS* DKPARTMKNT. jn* In the tine art department there was an( ? larger exhibition than ever before; and j 0fj notably amongst these for number and ?e] beauty was the contribution of the teach- *n ers and pupils of the Due West Female College. The artistic touch of the pencil aind brush portraved the taste, the talent we J fho ini una [HO Skill UI 1>1U? UUCU "Oil no tuv ? proficiency of her pupils. Miss True ma lii* perhaps attained a higher decree of excellence in the art of painting than any ^ -other lady in the South, and ha* made oet this elegant accomplishment one of the He most attractive features of a Female Col- ^ lege which stands second to none in the wj5 iState. We are glad to know that her merit* as an artist, and ability to teach, s * are being appreciated by the patrons of , the College. The very hand- ^ H?aie inica (isiog glass) wreath, made by Mr*. G- W_ Conner, of Cokes bury, was ' aw nuc.ii admired for its beauty as for its j'^g( novelty. This is the first specimen of the kind that we have ever seen, and we believe the idea of making a wreath of such material originated with Mrs. Conner. Tho articles executed in fish scales by ] Mrs. Dcnham of this place were delicate a ,, specimens of handiwork and elicited ad- j ^ miration. She was awarded a premium. jtjM Mrs. I)r. Hart, of Ninety-Six, also had on ,}1( exhibition a beautiful piece of work'^u made of fish scales, which was so highly j we sippreciated that she got a premium for ii., m Mrs. W. C. GriJfin'a quilt which wa?j,^ over one hundred years old. occasioned j |a, ?*onsiderablo comment and was noticed1 to by mativ. I Mrs. t. C. Gower, of Greenville, had a a(j <?uiIt also on exhibition, but it was not j pn <juite so old.
