-A German Immigrant's Opinion 'Of tfo Up-Country. We clip the follow!ug 'A'tiih the HiA?A>Wnn Npwx atnl tflatirieS" of Siltlir Aiay: \3cfMtlh iitiOiigi'lihls, 'Mr. it. B. Utise. who arrived with the two hundred and nine early last week, and who, w?th eighvy others, Germans and Irish, was sen I to Abbeville Couoty, writes a very interesting letter, dated Lowndesviile, February 1.1874, to Maj. F. Me I c hers,' of the Zeitung, describing tho trip to Abbe^ri41e and Lowndesviile, and the favorable impression that the country pro 'daced on his mind. Tho trip ol twenty hours' duration was enlivened !a*d shortened by patriotic German toongs, which even the want of provisions could not entirely stop. By some accident nothing had been proi,uA?aoK f Kom an t Ka rnflfl 1VICU IV 1V1IVOU UIVUI VII WMV. and if it had not been for Air LeRoi, the agent who accompanied them, and who succeeded in obtaining a quantity of cheese and crackers, when needed, they would have suffered severely. Upon arriving, towards .night, in Abbeville, another disapjt*fjf>tfnewt,r?et them, as the telegraph .aadorderedcontreyanee only for eight ,ra?D instead of eighty,; but the kind people of Abbeville took charge of 'thom, gave them a plentiful supper,. a?d>$iade them as comfortable :or me * night as possible, far which the immigrants eijjcsss^xjir gratitude. Eflrly ,n?xt morning they left Abbeville fbr tthejr several new homers, in .good <$heer and very favorably impressed tfvith tfie ,k|pd .people of Abbeville, ,\yho,did,Ajl ;jn iljQjv powQT to ,make Mew feel at home, which did not fail <to await en?feeliriga of,g;:atiWdc among tSw strangers in a, strange Hand. Mr. (ruse also praises the tmM climate of the hilly country, and considers the jtoil excelleut for the cultivation of grain and cotton, but sa}-s a great many more active and industrious hands are needed to change the look of desolation, which now prevails, into that of a flourishing prosperity, such as it bore some years ago. Altogether, Mr. Guse's observations are very encouraging, and as be is an intelligent German, who has seen something of the world, his impressions are of the Iiighe6t importance, as well to the coming immigrants as to the farmer. He promises to continue his reports lo Muj. Melchers, and authorizes him flo publish the same if he wishes. ?.?> Tiie English Elections. ? The English Parliamentary Elections Lave resulted adversely to Gladstone and the Liberals. According to the latest dispatches four hundred and eighty-four members of Parliament have been returned, of * i -i ? .1 ? j J. j... wnora two nuncireu ana iwemyfive are conservatives, and two Jiuudred and twenty-nine liberals. The conservatives replaced seventy-nine liberals, aud the latter have ousted twenty-seven conservatives. The Daily Telegcaph says : tkThe opinion of the country has been pronounced strongly adverse to Gladstone. He will comply with the decision, as he is bound to do, and will follow the constitution and precedents set by Peel, Mel *?: ?j _xi i __ : i huu omurs uuucr Hiiiinar; circnmatAiveca- They met in Par-1 lament with a royaJ speech, and either resigned therettpoa, or submitted to formal defeat. Not -obIv ,i? the field lost, but it is lost most ^decisively. The result is to be titubated to Mr. Brice's unpopular act; the decision of the Iroeral pari^, ,on t?ie side issues, ?m*h as the eihi-ca+ioit act- . leniale oifcage, tfce permissive biii, &c. not unnatural displeasure at the violent language against the society used by the supporters of the'Working Men's candidates, and !*#tly the want of tact and sympathy shown by several members of .the administration. It is reported that Gladstone has ent his resignation to the Queen. . New Advertisements.
