HORACE GREELEY AGAIN EDITOR. Horace Greeley resumes tlio editorship of the New York Tribune, /I iaao Kici VvnoifiAM ?n MUU ucauto uio ?.>uoiuvu ah tuv xvr losing card ; A CarDi?The undersigned re sumes the editorship of the Tribune, which he relinquished in embarking in another line ot business six months ago. Henceforth it shall be his endeavor to make this a thoroughly independent journal, treating ail parties and political movements with judicial fairness and candor; but courting the favor and deprecating the wrath of no one. If he cau hereafter say any thing that will tend to heartily unite the whole American people on the broad platform of universal amnes ty and impartial suffrage, he will gladly do so. For the present, however, he can best commend that consummation by silence and for bearance. The victors in our late struggle can hardly fail to take the whole subject of Southern eights and wrongs into early and earnest consideration, and to them, for the present, he remits it. Since he never will again be a candidate for any office, and is not in full accord with either of the great parties which have hitherto divided the country, he will be able and will i?? *. 1 eiiucav ur iu {jive uiuui uuu regard to the progress of science, industry, and useful arts than a partisan journal can do; and he will not be provoked to indulgence in those bitter personalities which are the recognized bane of journal ism. Sustained by a generous public, he will do his best to make the Tribune a power in the broader field it now contemplates as when human freedom was in peril it was in the arena of political partisan ship. ft (TRADE GREELEY. The election returns show thai General Grant has been re-elected President of the United States l>) overwhelming majorities. Mr. Greeley carries all the States which cast their vote for Seymour in 1868, with the important exceptions oi New Jersey, New York and Oregon. Against these losses he can onlv set a victory in Alabama, Arkansas. Missouri and Tennessee, whicli States were carried by Grant foui years ago. To summarize the re sult, Geueral Grant has certainty gained 253 of the 36G electoral votes,, leaving only 113 to Mr. G-reeley, with a probability that some of these minority votes may be lopped off when the official re turns come in. Washington, November 7.?The ht ir l rn l 11 > 11 :\ew loric limes claims mat tue popular majoritv for Grant is 700, 000; and the fVorld concedes him 500,000. The latest returns indicate the following majorities for Grant: Indiana, from 19,000 to 20,000; Mississippi, 30,000 claimed; Maine, 30,000; California, 5000 to 8000; Wisconsin, 15,000; Oregon, 10,000; Nevada, 2000; New Jersey, 14,000. The New York Times claims New York by 50,000 majority for Grant; also Louisiana and" Virginia. Ti e Ne?v York delegation to Congress stands 26 Republicans and 6 Demo crats. Kentucky is conceded to Greeley by 6000 to 10,000. Sloan and Wliiteley are elected from Georgia, and Eld ridge from "Wis consin. J. P. Jones will succeeed Nye in the United States Senate. Kendall, Democrat, is re-elected to Congress from xVevada. Morrison, Democrat, carries the seventeenth Illinois district, leaving the delega tion from that State twelve Repub licans and seven Democrats. A Remmcan has been elected in the thirerMissouri congressional Dis trict. The Democrats claim Mis souri by 30 000 to 40,000 and 9 Congressmen. The returns from West Virginia show heavy Repub lican gains. Both parties claim Arkansas. The Texas election is : t? t prugicaeiixg vjuictij. jlii uuuioiuuti it is believed that the Liberals are ahead. Tennessee is claimed lor Greeley by 20,000 majority. May uard beats Cheatham 1000. John son is far behind. Washington, November 8. ? Parker is 200 ahead in the Ninth Missouri District. Crittenden is elected in the Seventh Missouri District. Indications from Arkan sas are that the State lias gone for Grant by 2,000 to 3,000 majority, and Baxter has been elected. Hodges is elected from the first, Snyder from the second, and Gunter from the third districts. The Re publicans carried four Kentucky district, with two doubtful. The State gives Greeley 7,000 to 10,000 majority. Miron is elected from the Eighth Mississippi District. Whitehead . is elected from the Sixth Virginia. The Republicans claim the fifth. The Republicans claim three Congressmen from Maryland, including Spence, inde pendent. Maynard's plurality in Tennessee is about 10,000. The Republicans elect seven of the Con gressmen. The Illinois Legislature has eighty-six majority on joint ballot. This defeats Trumbull.
