In mine instances, horses wcro taken up bodily ami carried along nt a furious rate. Immense trees acre torn up by the roots ntid whole orchards swept away. Some ncavy objects were carried to a distance of several miles. Nearly everything that the tornado touched was made useless or eompletcly ruined. One house was taken up nud blown to atoms. Many lives were lost and numerous injuries to persons arc reported. Out of a family of nine, one was killed and eight are supposed to have been mortally wounded.? The Courier estimates that not less than a thousand persons were killed or injured.
