Mr. Brown is now pastor of several churches in fhestor county. Ice Cream Supper. The News is requested to announce that there will be an Ice cream summer at the home of W. H. Rollins Saturday evening, beginning jit eight o'clock, the proceeds oi which will go for the benefit of the Jackson-Ebenezer Baptist church. The ladies' aid society of the church -will be in charge. Mr. Feaster to I^eave. W. L. Feaster has accepted the principalship of the Central high school In Pickens county and will gi\e up his position with Thomson and company the first of August. Mr. and Mrs. Feaster will spend a month in the mountains of North Carolina before he takes vp his new work. Rev. Kroil Hay to Marry. Friends here of Rev. Fred Hay, a\ ho spent some time in Lancaster last year, supplying the First Presbyterian church during the absence if ltev. II. It. Those who stood the examination .it the courthouse last week for the Winthrop scholarship were Misses Mildred King and Myrtle Hunter, of Lancaster; Margaret Robinson, of North Lancaster; Ruby Hammond, of Heath Springs; and Odell Grlftln, of Van Wyck. County Superintendent of Education A. C. Itowell conducted the examination. Mr. Hailes Announces. The first avowed candidate for the state senute from Lancaster county to succeed the late Senator Hough is S. E. Hailes. of Pleasant Valley. Mr. Hailes announces his candidacy in this ^ssue of The News. He represented the county in the house in 1D14-16, and was a candidate last year, but was defeated. In his announcement. Mr. Railes does not state his position on anv of the nub-' lie guestions now before the people. ' Mr. Dobbins to Chester A. H. Robbins, for several years superintendent of the Lancaster cotton mills, will move to Chester about August 1, where he has purchased an Interest in the Springstein and lEureka mills. Mr. Robbins will become general manager of the Chester mills. M. S. Hull, overseer of weaving at the Lancaster cotton mills, will become superintendent of the Springstein and Eureka. Mr. Robbins was formerly connected with the mills at Chester. A New Departure at the University. In addition to the many forward movements set in motion for the coming sessiop Ike University and already noted in the newspapers, pecial significance is to be attached to the establishment of a department of hygiene in connection with the Inter-departmental Social Hygiene Itoard ut Washington. The establishment of this new department meets with the approval of Superintendent Swearingen. who first suggested the idea to the president of the University. After considerable correspondence and two \ isits to Washington, President Curreli succeeded in making satisfactory arrangements with the authorities at the capital "\>y which they agree to furnish the funds necessary to secure a director of hygiene whose specific work will be the teaching of this" subject to students in the school f education.
