ANNOUNCEMENT?1916. i ne Lancaster County Fair Association takes great pleasure in announcing that it will hold the THIRD ANNUAL FX11IHIT in the City of Lancaster during the week of November 20-25; the prominent days of which will he?Wednesday, Th/ir<day, Friday, designated as: Merchants and Manufacturers Da.v, Farmers Day and Hducational Day respectively. In undertaking this task the Association does so with full faith in the people of our county. Wfe believe in the potentiality of the people and the productivity of the soil. The topography of the county makes it particularly healthgiving and adaptable to a variety of agricultural undertakings. Occupying the ridge between the Catawba river on the West and Lynches river on the Fast it is well nigh perfectly drained and watered the year round. We do not believe our people have fully appreciated what the good God of Nature has given them, hence one object of the FAIR ASSOCIATION is to stimulate an interest in the great possibilities of our county by seeing what some of the more enterprising are doing. We want to bring togethei the best we have in every line. Whatever goes to make the home a healthier, happier place of abode we wish to find out about it, put it on exhibit, give a prize of reward, and then learn the secret and pass it on to others. We can only find out what is best by an impartial standard of comparison. If you have done anvthine well u.hn?i.?r ?? Domestic Arts by the ladies in putting up a superior jar of preserves, or in Stork raising or Agriculture by the men, this FAIR ASSOCIATION wishes you to put it on exhibit and try for th-> Reward of Merit. We wish also to emphasize the Aesthetic side of life particularly In the Landscape Garden. Before the Civil War our Southland was becoming famous for their beautiful tlower gardens. Fvery home should be surrounded with fruits, flowers and vegetables. Our people are tardy in developing this important side of their home. In connection with these educational and stimulating exhibits we desire to offer a week of wholesome recreation. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull hoy" is a truth we all should recognize, hence bring to the FAIR your brightest smiles and merry heart and you will brighten some one else giving him courage to take up his tasks with a firmer grip when he goes back home. BKi MIDWAY The Herbert Greater Shows will furnish the Midway attractions for the Lancaster County Fair this season, and judging from reports from other cities where they have appeared, the local Fair Association were indeed lucky in securing them. The Herbert Shows carry Ton High Class Shows, a largo Merry-Go-Hound, Two Sensational Free Acts and an excellent Concert Hand and numerous smaller attractions. Among the larger shows are Herbert's Greater Minstrels, with eighteen all-star colored performers, and their own band and orchestra. Herbert's Water Circus, with five beautiful Swimming and Diving Girls in a daring aquatic exhibition. Ilopkin's Circus Sideshow, with freaks and curiosities from every clime. Herbert's Palace of Mystery, introducing the most bewildering illusions ever presented. "Wild Nettle," the Australian Snake-Girl, living iu a Den of Poisonous Reptiles. Dog and Pony Circus with a large trope of Kducated Pets. Golden West Show, depicting scenes and incidents of the days when the Red Man ruled the Plains Monster Man-Fating Shark, recently captured ofT the Coast of New Jersey. Fifteen feet in length, and weighing a ton. One of the Free Attractions carried by the Herbert Shows will prove itself of timely interest to the people of this com* munity on account of the recent Mexican and Kuropean War Talk, r Sailor Jack, who recently finished an enlistment on a Man-o-War, gives an exhibition on a Rope that is nothing short of marvelous. Ho performs twice daily, showing the sports and pastimes of the Jolly Jack Tar at Play. The Flying Deons will also thrill you twice daily in their wonderful Trapeze and Iron Jaw Act.
