Huey of the Jacksonham community was in town yesterday for the first time this year. Mr. Huey has had grip and his friends were glad to see him here again. Dr. and Mrs. S. L. Allen moved this week frori the Hotel Roal to anartmen's on the second floor of the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Millon where they have begun housekeeping. Col. Leroy Springs, president of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, was a guest at the j b-mquet given by the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Wednesday night. Read the notice published to- j day calling attention to the fact' that lbe banks will be closed next Tuesday, which is Washington's birthday, a legal holiday. Her many friends will regret to learn of the continued indis^ position of Mrs. S. R. Brock who ^ has been confined to her room ever since Christmas. She is still unable to walk but we hope her condition will soon improve. Dr. W. S. CurreU, president of the University of South Carolina will deliver an address at the Oakhurst School house on the evening of February 22nd, 1916, at eight o'clock, after which refreshments will be served by the school. Those who send us cards of thanks, obituaries, etc., should remember that cash should accompany such communications. Williams was hostess yesterday afternoon at a delightful affair when she entertained the Chesterfield Ave. Club and a dozen or more other friends. This club plays rook and three tables were made uo of the devotees of this game while auction bridge was olaved at two other tables. Mrs. J. H. Withersnoon scored hiirhest at auction, receiving the prize, a pair of | silk hose. After the games the; hostess served an elaborate aalad course and coffee. The Social Study Club held a particularly pleasant meeting the nast week with Mrs. J. E. "Rlackmon at her home in West End. Interior decoration is the present subject of study by this congenial club. An article on furniture of the" Revolutionary period was read and one on Martha Washington.
