CHILDREN'S CHAPTER, U. D. C. Organized Yesterday by Mrs. W. E. Taylor. At the home of Miss Annie With erspoon a chapter of the Children of the Confederacy was organized yesterday by Mrs. W. E. Taylor. Miss Witherspoon was made chairman of the meeting and the following officers were elected for one year: Pauline Jones Marion, president; Helen Derrick. flrpf vice president; Sadio Wilson, second vice president Lucia Murchison, recording secretary; Laura G. Williams, corresponding secretary: Katharine W>lle, historian; Mary Locke Barron, musi clan; Mrs. W. E. Taylor, oiganizer. The first meeting of the new chapter will bo held with Miss Mary Locke Barron on the second Thursday aftm con In May. h CONTRACT NOT YET LET. t Committee to Inspect Work Elsewhere. The town council devoted the greater part of Wednesday and Wednesday night to the consideration of the bids fpr the paving of Main street. There were agents of about eight different companies here competing for the work. The city fathers have not yet decided definitely the kind of paving they will have done, whether concrete, bithulitic, sheet asphalt or asphalted concrete. A committee composed of Aldermen L. C. Lazenby and W. H. Millen, in company with Engineer H. 8. Jaudon, have gone to Charlotte, Spartanburg and Columbia to find out the results of the paving done in those cities. As soon as they make their report the contract will be let. DEATH OF MRS. G. K. ADAMS. Good Woman Goes to Her Reward. Mrs. Nannie (E. Adams, wife of Mr. O. R. Adams, died at her home in Lancaster at 4 o'clock Thursday morning. She was a daughter of the late T. B. Mrs. Adams was a good Cbrlstlnn woman and a consistent member of the Second Methodist church. The funeral services were held today at 1 p. m. at Douglas church and the remains were Interred in Douglas church yard, after services conducted by Rev. Ci W. Burgess, pastor of the deceased. Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband, her aged mother and three children, viz: Mrs. T. J. Mahaffey, Mr. P. F. Adams and Miss Ardrey Adams. She also leaves several brothers and sisters. If ypu start it, you will be sure to read every T?- of It. BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET. < Chamber of Commerce Takes Up i Important Matters. . A meeting of the board of gov- . ernors of the Lancaster Chamber of J Commerce was held Tuesday evening, April 20, with the following members present 1 IE. M. Croxton, C. N. Sapp, W. P. Robinson, R. E. Wyjie, Col. Leroy Springs, J. T. Thomasson, J. B. Mackorell, Harry Hirsch, W. T. Gregory, L. C. Lazenby. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary and unanimously approved. The organization of a county fair association for Lancaster county was fully discussed. After the matter had been thoroughly thrashed out, a motion was presented by Mr. Sapp, i which received a second from Mr. i Thomasson, that a committee of five ! be appointed by the chair to look into the possibility of such an under- J taking, ascertaining as far as possible all information concerning the probaility of stock raising, grounds. I rentals, probable incomes, etc. When voted upon, unanimously carried. The chair promptly appointed on this committee: C. N. Sapp, chairman; W. T. Gregory, L. C. Lazenby. J. B. Mackorell, Harry Hirsch, and the secretary. This same committee was also designated as a committee to look into the advisability of holding a Fourth of July celebration. The next proposition up for discussion was that of the erection of a flour mill in Lancaster. After discussing the matter considerably, the secretary was instructed to place advertisements in The Manufacturers' Record and The Millers' Journal inviting those looking for such locations to get In touch with this organization. The secretary was further instructed to take up the matter with the various machinery people with a view of getting us in touch with some live, wide-awake man who is looking for a small flour mill location. The health situation in Lancaster was discussed, and, as a result, the above mentioned committee was instructed to visit the city officials In session advising that it is the sense of the Chamber of Commerce, that it would be to the best interest of the city and the people as a whole, that said city council require all persons, firms, and corporations inside of fire limits to Install sewerage connection inside of the next 60 days, and that all people inside of city limits be required to Install these conveniences by not later than January 1, 1916. "Cleanliness is next to Godliness," hence the board of governors deem it advisable that the Chamber of Commerce should co-operate with the city council, The. Lancaster News, Civic League, and all other agencies interested in same in a general clean-up of our city. Wednesday, May 12th, was designated as ' Clean-up Day," on which date it Is hoped that the pe; pie at large will respond to the importance of same. The secretary was irstrucied to get in touch with the slat J board of health with a request that all information, literature, etc., which they may have on this important subject mfglit be furnished us for use that day. I The importance of constructin< a bridge over the Catawba river was a subject which received much consideration from the board. As a re suit of the discussion, the secretary was instructed to try and arrange a conference of the county officials of the three counties, Chester, ' York and Lancaster, for the purpose, If I possible, of arranging some plan of procedure whereby the three counties and citizens at large might get together on this proposition. The above plan was presented by Mr. Thomasson, seconded by both Mr. Robinson and Mr. Gregory, and, when voted upon, carried unanimously. Mr. Wylle suggested that the secretary get in touch with leading citizens throughout the county with a view of holding community meetings, at which time members of the board of governors and merchants of the city would meet with the pepple for the purpose of discussing matters of Importance to all. A motion by Mr. Sapp and seconded by Mr. Gregory that the bills of the organization be paid, when voted upon, unanimously carried. As there was no othor business, the meeting adjourned. Miss Dillie Parks of this place was married Wednesday at noon tt Mr. Walter Allen Wentz of Aiken The marriage ceremony took plac* at the home of the bride's father Mr. Mobley Parks, and the ceremonj was performed by her pastor, Rev E. T .Hodges. Immediately after wards the bride and groom left fo their home in Aiken, where Mr Wentz is the efficient manager of tin telephone system. The marriage came as a surprisi to the Lancaster friends of Mrs Wentz, who as Miss Parks, is wel known in Lancaster, where she ha held a position with the Lancaste Telephone Company.
