M, Social News In honor of Miss Gertrude Smith of Orangeburg aiui Miss Mary Craig of Columbia, who were the week-end guests of Misses N'annine Hill and Dorothy Moore, Mrs. D. Iteece Williams entertained delightfully last Friday afternoon. In spite of the downpour of rain, twenty guests were present and entered with zest into the games of auction bridge. Mrs. Walter M. Stevens scored highest, winning first prize, A box of correspondence cards. Miss Betty Brown cut the consolation,'a dainty set of gold pins, while the attractive guest of honor, their hostess presented each with a dainty hand embroidered handkerchief. Mrs. Williams, assisted by Mrs. J. K. Connors, served tempting refreshments in two courses. * * * In honor of Miss Gertrude Smith, also, Miss Margaret Moore enterta'ned the Girls' Auction Bridge club and a few other guests at a merry party Saturday. The morning hours were spent at a series of interesting games, in which Miss Craig of Columbia, scored highest, winning a dainty handkerchief. To Miss Smith her hostess gave a pair of silver hatpins as a souvenir of this happy affair. Mr. Walter Hendrix is at home again after completing the session as teacher in the Bruce school. In the girls' contest the following will he the order: Wlnthrop Training School, Yorkville. Rock Hill, Chester, Fort Mill, Lancaster and Winnsboro: There is lots of rivalry between the schools. On this occasion the rivalry will be intense. All speakers will be announced by numbers and neither the judges nor theaudience will know who they are until after the contests are over. The order of speakers was drawn by disinterested parties, so that no partiality will be shown. It Is expected that a larga number of patrons and friends will attend from the communities represented.
