Crenshaw, has sent us a sample of his sweet potato crop, with this message: "Don't you think this is fine for a 70-yearold man to raise?" Mr. Crenshaw is a farmer who has always lived at home and boarded at the same plat e, except for the four years lie was in Virginia helping whip the Yankees ?While Mr. W. S. Langley. in company with several of his friends was near Kershaw in his automobile on their way to the state fair Thursday, the steering wheel of the machine got out of fix, causing it to run into an embankment, smashing one of the wheels. The party did not proceed further, but returned to Lancaster on the train due here at 10 a. m. \ BASKETBALL. Heath Springs Takes Both Games From Kershaw. In the first basketball game of the season between the Heath Springs and Kershaw Bchool teams at the latter place on October 20th, the Heath Springs five won over the Kershaw boys by the score of 19 to 11. The game was played very fast, both teams doing excellent work. The Heath Springs boys, however, had the advantage In weight. But this did not prevent the Kershaw boys from ptting up a game fight. The playing of Holley and Hilton, guards for Kershaw, and the goal throwing of Burnle Hinson of Heath Springs, were the features of the game. On Tuesday. October 27th, the second game was played between Kersaw and Heath Springs at the latter place. This gamo from the start seemed as If It would be very close, as both sides scored only t'AO points each for about 15 minutes of the first half. However, the Heath Springs squad quickened up and finished the half with score 8 to 2 In their favor. In the second half both teams tightened up and began playing snappy ball. Although the Heath Springs boys had the advantage In weight, they had to fight to win, the final score being 18 to 6. Although the game was one-sided from a spectator's point of view. Kershaw gave Heath Springs a stubborn resistance. J. EARL CRIMINGER, Manager THE LANCASTER SPECIAL. The Booster Trip to Columbin a DeoMed Success. The booster trip to the state fair, gotten up by our energetic and efflthese boys and girls will read some Commerce, Mr. Luther Ellison, was a decided success. The Lancaster party, with penants flying and red caps, decorated In white letters with our familiar slogan, "Lancaster Leads," were escorted Into the fair grounds by the hand, where they were given a warm speech of welcome by Mr. J. N. Klrven, president of the fair association. He spoke very appreciatively of the enterprise and state pride of our wide awake county In getting up this booster trip despite the financial depression and commended our spirit as one to be empulated by other counties. The visitors were extended many courtesies by the officers and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits, especially the agricultural displays. The careful examination of the already accomplished agricultural success of the progressive farmers in our various counties satisfied the isltors that with our fertile soil bere Is no danger of suffering, even though our staple product brings so low a price.
