Rowell, who has been n sick for several weeks with malaria, and Mr. William Hays, who had his ^ leg broken some time ago. are both ^ able to be out again. !j* The farmers generally are in bet- i" ter spirits than they were a few : weeks ago. Rowell, .1 of onr own district, is assistant. I think they have done their work ,5 as thoroughly and their disciple has bee? as good, if not better, than any I school I have had any knowledge of. J I am glad to note that many of j J the schools in the county are moving !t np, along all lines. It is very grati- r fying to know this, as your humble f scribe had the privilege of seeing the first local tax levied on many of the J districts that now have the most prosperous schools. Some of these, e of which special mention ha* recently ^ noted in the columns of The News, viz: Pleasant Plain, No. 33, all of which have the limit of the law, ? eight mills; there are a few others ' aim that have eight mills. Many ^ others that five or six years ago were t running a three months' term, in a t very poor, inadequate buildings, (worse than the average farmer''? ^ barn) are now running five and six a months each year in costly, modern buildings. While, it was the pleasure of the electors of the county to * place another man at the throttle, I fl am .glad to see the good work go on. (j Well, Miss Editor, for fear that some one may think that this letter } is a forerunner to my announcement a for office, I wish to say to my many 'friends who stood by me throughout the past, and also to those who are . my political enemies, that I will not ! he Jn the race for any office this ' I year.
