1 GREAT PARADES, f " ATTHEREUNIflNI -.Maids and Sponsors To Open | series un Morning Of the First Day 8ons of Veterans and Military Organs xations Second Day, While the Veterans Parade Last Day. Jacksonville, Fla.?With the near approach of May 6, Interest In the 24th annual reunion of thv. United Confederate Veterans' Association and Sons of Confederate Veterans, centers around the three parades, one each day of the reunion. It has been defl- I nltely decided that the first parado will be that of the maids and sponsors. and It will ba given on the afternoon of May ?. This parade wll^ie confined to automobiles and carriages and all sponsors and maids of honor will be admitted to It. The Jacksonville Romnlon Association has decided that. If possible, the parade of maids and sponsors will bo the finest spectacle of the kind ever seen In the southern states. The route will be several miles long and passes through the principal residence and business sections of th% city. The parade of the second day, May '< ? 7, will be of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and local military organisations. It 1b the present plan for the Bons to march on *foot, and the parade will take In the business s .Ions of the city. On the morning of May 8, the last day of the reunion, the annual parade of the Confederate Veterans will be held. Jacksonville labors under a disadvantage In staging this parade that wo other reunion elty has ever encountered, that of securing horses. There are very few available horses ta Jacksonville, and as a result It has bsen decided to mkke the parade a combination between horsee, automobiles and foot-marching. The local J association holloTM that It will ha possible for the commanders and their wtaff officers to be provided with mounts, but It Is going to he a dlffi* J cult matter to secure a sufficient nurrp ber even for that. However, a united olfort Is being made to secure all the mounts possible in Jacksonville and nearby toin Florida and So\ith Ceoagla,.' Arrangements for these parades are being worked out rapidly tw special 4f eommlttees. MaJ, S. C. H*rlaon is chairman of the committee 'that will have charge of the Sons of Veterans parade. He Is being assisted by the local camp of Sons of* Veterans, of which Judge John L.* Dodge la commander. Adjt.-Gen. m. B. Forrest, of the National Sons ofl^eterans, Is hefe giving much of hlj? attention to theee arrangements. Dr. W. M. ?tlnson Is chairman of the commltty on entertainment of maids and sponsors, and has been working on flans for some time with a corps of Assistants. He will organise the entire program of the maids ?nd sponsors entertainment features wad promises to give the visiting ladles the best possible reception In Jacksonville. Gen. John L. IngUs, commander of the Florida division, U. C. V., is, under the rules of the United Confederate Veterans' Associations, chief marshal of the veterans parade, with Gen. W. H. Sebring. cnief aide. Gen. Inglls wants a parade In which the older veterans will occupy automobiles and carriages, with commanders and as many of their staffs as possible on horseback. The veterans' parade is being worked out along these lines. The social functions of the reunion will be about the same ^s have pre- m ailed at other reunion cities.
