The guests . were received by President and Mrs. ' Johnson and the members of the faculty. They were then conducted , to the auditorium by the marshals and the Methodist girls and given an organ recital. At the end of the recital refreshments were served. It was ai great pleasure to the Lancaster girls to meet Rev. R. E. Turnlpseed again. We were greatly disappionted not to see Rev. M. M. Brabham, who is not attending con- : ference. We also missed Rev. E. T. I Hodges, business having kent him 11 away from the reception. However, | we did see Major Riddle and were mighty glad to shake hands with somebody from home. Thanksgiving brought to Winthrop girls a welcome holiday. Many of , the girls availed themselves of the | opportunity and took long walks, most of the crowds going to Ebe- j neezer. Of course the feature of the day was the Thanksgiving dinner. We know how to appreciate such a > royal spread, for it comes only once a year, and every Winthrop girl did full justice to the occasion. On Monday night, November 24, the joint celebration of the Curry, Wade Hampton, and Winthrop Literary* Societies was held in the auditorium. The speakers of the evening were former Winthrop girls, graduates from the department of expression. Miss Eleanor Reid, form- J erly of Curry Society; Miss Eudora Kirk, formerly of Wade Hampton, and Miss Luelle Melton, a former member of Winthrop. The program was highly enjoyed. The following cards have been Issued: The Young Women's Christian Association cordially invites you to attend a series of special student meeting, conducted by Miss Bertha Conde, student secretary of the National Board of Y. W. C. A. Services will be held in the auditorium each evening from 6:30 to 7: from December 1st to December 6th. "Quo Vadis" will be given here in moving pictures next week. FAMILY REUNION. Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Hammond Entertain Their Children. Special to The News. Stonesboro, Dec. 3.?Thanksgiving passed off nicely in our little place. The stores were closed and business generally was suspended. 1 Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Hammond gave a big dinner to their children, | and a few friends on that day. Thirty- I one of the family were present, all I being there except one little grand- I child, Caroline Hammond, who had I tone off on a visit. Those outside of i I the family were: Mr. C. B. Johnson and family, Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Hammond, Messrs. Burke Clark and Shalor Mobley of Heath Springs, and E. W. Bodle, J. 0. Caston and Brown Heath of this place. The day was enJoyed by all. The turkeys and abundance of other things helped to make the day long to be remembered. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond bave a family of ten children, who gathered with them on Thanksgiving. They have both enjoyed good health and j do not appear to be grandparents of ! to many children. After dinner Mr. Bodle invited the ' crowd to the school house, where \ they witnessed an Interesting game ' of basketball with his school boys. Then the young ladies played a game. 1 The day was only too short, and we j hope Mr. and Mrs. Hammond will , live to see many more such Thanksgivings.
