Senators O'Gorman and Hitchcock singled out as individual , objects of two attacks within the \ T| past three days, demanded that the J? committee take up the matter and , for an hour the criticisms were discussed. ' After the meeting Senator Hitch- STi cock said that the members of the C committee had unanimously expressed the opinion that any organized effort to coerce the committee, or to Cro circulate unfounded criticisms of J t members of the committee, was to be ' c condemned. He also declared that 1 the members had condemned the iSO] criticism of himself, made public in , j a statement by Representative Glass, who piloted the administration bill 1 through the house. ma< GOOD FEELING PRESENT. ^ Senator O'Gorman said that the (19 meeting resulted in a general expres- 0ou slon of good feeling among the mem- un<3 hers of the committee and an under- tioi standing that no further efforts to th0 force the committee to act preniaturely would be tolerated. General endorsement of several ?* features of the bill was voiced today J by Mr. Vanderlip, who also suggested numerous amendments which he said O] were necessary to make the measure ?a working success. He will continue his discussion of ^ the bill tomorrow. m Mr. Vanderlip today criticised adversely the independence of the regional reserve banks, the character of the note issue plan and the section compelling all national banks to be- _ come members of the proposed sys- In tern. A repetition of the panic of 1007 from such causes as brought it about, would be impossible under the proposed system, said Mr. Vanderlip. He declared the call loan market would be greatly minimized in importance under the new plan and that hundreds of millions of dollars now used for call loans on stock exchange collateral would be turned into commercial channels. The reserve system proposed would be superior to the present system, he said.
