William A. Guerry. The pre-1 limlnary service conducted by the ed recetor, Rev. W. A. Boyd, and a w? quartet choir with the organ, accom- , Ev panled by Mr. R. M. McDermid on Mi the violin, furnished very sweet Mi music. The bishop's sermon was (G. from Matthew 16:24. "If any man H< will come after me, let him deny Cc himself, take up his cross and follow i Jo me." He showed that the religion I of Christ offers no easy road to His mi disciples, that it requires strength, ily courage and steadfastness to live as He would have us live. The bishop spoke very plainly and earnestly of the need for more firm conviction. ^ and the courage to speak out against the evils which we know exist. His sermon was indeed most excellent and it is to be regretted that more of our people did not hear It. After his sermon. Bishop Guerry took occasion to express his satisfaction at the great improvements that has been made on the church since his last visitation. He said that he believed it to be a token of a spiritual growth as well as an Increase of material prosperity. Only Four I/eft. Mr. James M. Crenshaw of Heath Springs spent the week-end at this place on a visit to his daughter, Mrs. Frank Johnson. This is his first visit ? t v to the city in four years and he was 1 very much impressed with the evidences of Improvement on all hands. Mr. Crenshaw is now in his seventieth year, but bears his years well. Out of 104 men who marched out of Ran- ~ caster under the command of Capt. R. L.. Crawford in 1861, only three others are living beside himself, Mr. John S. Blackmon of this place and Capt. F. M. Welsh and Mr. W. B. Hilton of Chesterfield county. He served under four captains. After the death of Captain Crawford, who was Inktantly killed In 1862, near Suffolk. Va.. on the Black Water river, the command of the company devolved on Qapt. J. M. Kirk. Captain K}rk was "killed at Fort Harrison, leaving the command of the company to Capt. F. M. Welsh. Towards the close of the war Captain Welsh was made prisoner, leaving the company to be commanded by Lieut. L. J. Perry. T| "The Value of a Oood Name." Mr. Oeorge E.
