Young Walter ( nutlien Has Narrow Ksca|>e From Death. Mr. Walter Cauthen. the eldest son of Mr. Jim Cauthen, of the Dry Creek section, met with a painful accident last Saturday morning. He was operating a wood saw at the gin house near his home when the box covering the mantle came off and the saw flew up, wounding the young man about the shoulders and cutting a long gash from the left shoulder downward, almost to the heart. This worst cut was twelve inches long and narrowly missed the jugular vein. Young Mr. Cauthen displayed wonderful nerve, assuring his father immediately that he was not fatally hurt. Mr. Cauthen, Sr., helped his son into the house and medical attention was quickly summoned. Dr. Poovey, the attendant physician, found it necessary to take 19 stitches. The accident was, of course, very painful, but the young man is resting very well at present and reports from his bedside today are most encouraging. Walter Cauthen has many friends in Lancaster, having attended the graded school here the past year. He was to have left today with several of his friends who went to enter Wofford College.
