After business had been dispensed with, the game of hearts was played for an hour or more. Miss Lessie Johnson received the prize for highest score, a pretty gold heart, while the booby, a pic 1 ?1 * * iuic was ttwaruea ivirs. jonn Riddle. After a delightful series of vocal .and instrumental selections had been enjoyed, the guests were served elaborate refreshments in four courses. This meeting was greatly enjoyed by the congenial members of this club which is composed of a number of the ladies of West End. The hostess was assisted in receiving and entertaining her guests by her sister, Mrs. J. B. Mackorell and Miss Cornelia Elliott. The "silver tea" given by the ladies of the Methodist church last Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. L. S. Elliott was a decided success in every particular. The guests were met at the door by Mrs. R. B. Mackey and Mrs. D. E. Penny. The Washington birthday idea was carried out effectively in the decorations. A "cherry tree log cabin" lighted within was the unique collection box, which at the close of the evening was found to hold about $15. In the dining room the guests were greeted by Mrs. J. C. Foster and served with coffee and sandwiches. Misses Mildred Billings and Willis Elliott pinned a-tractive souvenir cards on the guests as they left the dinig room. These were tied with tri-colored ribbon and handpainted in cherries. Flags were used everywhere and the lights were shaded in red, white and blue. A delightful musical p'*ogrom was rendered by a num ber of children under the leadership of Mrs. Lester Robinson. Several beautiful solos were sung by Mrs. . Sarah Shuler of Lexington, the guest of Mrs. E. T. Hodges. FELL FROM SECOND STORY Mr. Hollis Horton Sustains Serious if Not Fatal Injuries. Mr. Hollis Horton, who was engaged in painting the residence of Col. Leroy Springs, sustaind serious if not fatal injuries by falling from the second story on the west side of the house to the cement walk below, while at work at 1:201 o'clock this afternoon. Mrs. Lee Knight of the mill community died Friday night , after a short illness. She left surviving her her husband and two small children. The attraction of the season will be presented at the Mackey opera house Wednesday evening, March 5, when "Freckles," the dramatization of Gene Stratton-Porter's popular novel will be presented.
