(o)im.biu Matt, A pril 7. 7 The Rural School Improvement association has renewed its offer of 35 prizes to the ehools of South Carolina. The ?onte8t is open to all country schools, as well as to schools iu towns of less than 400 population. Last year 91 entries were made and the committer f award were 60 impressed with the exhibit made that, they subscribed $200 tor eight additional prizes. The above information was sent out yesterday by State iinperintendetot Swearingen. who wrote the following letter to county superintendents : "The smallest rural school is eligible for the contest, and it there is a log schoolhouse remaining in any locality in South Carolina it should this year be replaced with a oomtortable frame building. The following is the announcement of the aesociatiou: ''The South Carolina School Improvement association offers 06 prizes to the schools of the State for the most decided material improvement made during a given length of time. Five ot the prizes are to be$100 each, and 30 are to be $50 each. Regulations concerning the 35 prizes that are to be awarded by I this association are as follows:^ ; "(1) Improvements must, be j I made betw een November 1, 1908,! I and December 10. 1909. "(2) Prizes will he awarded I lo schools where the most decided[material[im prove men ts have J>een jiiade during the time mentioned. "(3) Under material improve ments are included local taxa tion, consolidation, new build I ings, repairing aud painting old I ones, libraries, reading rooms or I tables, interior decorations, beau- . I tifying yards and better general I equipment. ' (4)^0 school can compete'! lor any of these prizes unless it I is a rural school. No [town with I more than 400 inhabitants shall i be eligible to the contest. "(5) All who wish to enter; this contest must send namesI and descriptions ot schools before improvements are made to the; president prior to October J. <l(6) All descriptions, photo ! graphs and other evidences i showing improvements must be j sent to the president before December 15, 1909.
