Ancaster Negro Killed in
West Virginia
A dispatch from Roanoke,
Va., in yesterday's Columbia B
State says: Four negroes got
into a shooting scrape at Alnwick,
W. Va., last night and as
' a result two of them, Bob Bur/
dette of Alnwick and Davy
Crockett of Lancaster, S. C.,
are dead. Burdette, Crockett,
Henry Cole, and George BigeH
low were engaged in a crap
game when a quarrel arose and
all drew pistols. The shooting
was general and it is not known
who shot Burdette and Crockett,
_ Both men received injuries
in the abdomen and luners
and Burdette's chin was shot
away. Cole and Bigelow received
slight injuries and made
their escape.
Fine Entertainment.
There is but one opinion among
the 250peoplewho weie present
at the entertainment by Ralph
BiDgham in the graded school
auditorium last Tuesday night,
that, is that it was a thoroughly I
delightful occasion. This sue- I
cess of the first attempt for a; II
high class lyceum course assure j I
several other equally as goods j B
attractions during i he next three l
months. The second ot the se- jj!
ries, one ot the very best of fhe I
concert companies, il 1 appear I
in January, and tiie satisfaction k
with the Gingham entfr'Hinnient I
will be sufficient advertisement j L
to assure its success. The teach- I
ers who have the course in
charge guarantee that there will I
be none but the very best and I
highest, priced attractions. The ij
profits are to be used to improve L
the library.
