C.?A current report has it that tlie two mills here a ill re nme operations on Dee. 1st. A contradictory report has it that the mills will not si art until the new year. Kind's Mountain, N. C.?The Cora Manulacturing Company is understood to be planning the addition of 10,000 spindles, but no (authoritative statement nas Deen matte. There are now about 10,500 6pindleB in position. Brevard, N. C.?Work is pro greasing rapidly on the power plant of the Transylvania Cotton mill Company, which is at Little River Falls, some six miles distant. It is reported that the plant will be complete and the mill put in operation by January 1st, 1909. They have 4,000 spindles and will make fine yarns 40s to 60s, two-ply. Atlanta, Ga.?The Southeastern Mill have been incorporated by Messrs. A. A. Smith and Geo. C. Speir of Atlanta, and Samuel L. Ayres and Samuel W. Bridges of Boston, Mass. This company has a capital stock of $100,000, and will manufacture cotton products, but details have not been announced. Sanford, N. C?RoUt. L. Steele, of Rockingham, N. C., was here last week and made a proposition to the citizens relative to locating a bleachery at this point. Sanford is touched by the Southern railway aud the Atlantic Coast Line and is on the main line ot the Seaboard Air ijiue. Henderson, N. C.?The second largest fire in the history of (he of this town for thirty years occurred Nov. 14 at 4:30 o'clock, when Parham Brothers' four story brick bagging factory was totally destroyed, with its adjoining buildings on VVynder avenue. By strenuous efforts the residences on the opposite side of the street were saved. Tarboro, N. C.?The rumors that the Tarboro Cotton Factory troubles were about to be compromised were baHed on a proposition that Mr.Bridges, the plaintiff, made tho defendants, but as this has been rejected the end of the litigation is not in sight and the posibilities of a receivership looms up oversh&dowingly. Concord. N. C.?The Kerr Bleaching and Finishing Works, the plant ot which was burned some time ago, will be rebuilt at once. This definitely decided on at a recent meeting ot the stockholders. The debris has been cleared away preparatory to rebuilding. The machines have been shipped back to the factory to be rebuilt, and it is claimed that th**y can be made as good as new. The bleachery will be rebuilt at the lormer location, and the ground lloor will be placed five leet higher than before. The engine and hoiler room was saved, and both are as good as before the fire. Mitchell A Co., a commission house of Philadelphia, Pa., a creditor, for the sum of about $200,000. This action was taken after two efforts had been made to have a public sale, both of which had failed, and it being deemed beet for all inter ested to accept the offer made by Mr. Mitchell and close up the deal, so thas the property might resume operation. Spartanburg special iu Charlotte Observer: The heaviest sentence ever imposed in this county for conviction on the charge of selling liquor was that today imposed bv Judge Klugh on Col. Aaton Thompson, of this county, who was convicted ou three counts. He was given a fine of $1,500 or eighteen | months 111 the penitentiary or all hard labor on the public works of the county. The case will be appealed. Motion was made for a new trial but was refused by the court. Why He Couldn't Give Surety Bond. Columbia special in Charlotte Observer: The hearing before Insurance Commissioner McMas ter this afternoon in the action of Charles P. Miller against the American Surely Company to have the commissioner revoke the company's license to do business in this State on the grounds that it canceled his bond as agent tor the Southern at Fort Mill last February because ot testimony Miller gave against the surety company in a case at Laurens several years ago, turned out a stiff and energetic boom erang tor Miller and the complete vindication of the surety company. Miller made no at tempt to vindicate himselt or explain any of the various seriou* charges against him, putting up no evidence. His attorneys were taken by surprise and could do nothing lor him. At the coin elusion of the hearing Mr. Mc Master promptly rendered his decision in writing that there was "no evidence to support the complaint ot the said 0. 1*. Miller, but tiiat there was good and sullicient reasons why the American Sure'y C ompanv should have declined to remain on his bond. Therelore the rule is dismissed " Mother Finds Twin Babies .Dead in ?Sed. Mount Airy, N. 0., special in yestorday's Charlotte Observer: The twin bahie9 of Mrs. Gr?vley, of this city, only about 4 months old, were found dead in bed on the 16th instant. Mr. (iravley was killed by lightning when the twins were only a few hours old, and only recently Mrs. Gravley moved to town, thinking she could got along better in town than in the country. It is a mvstery what caused the death of both children at the same time.
