How Dispensary Decision was Received in Columbia. Columbia State: The uewe of the decision of the federal court of appeals, which gave the United States courts jurisdiction over the State dispensary luuds, was received with much interest iu Columbia. State officials have had very little to say othe decision, except that an appeal would be taken to the supreme court and until that tri-1 bunal finally nassed nnnn * -- ? -rv" ?"v I case there would be no change in the situation. The decisiou of the court of appeals, which sustains Judge Pritchard, means tlia? the receivers appointed, Messrs. Arthur, Henderson and McOollough, would have the right to distribute the funds, amounting to $800,000, according to testimony offered those concerned. It is yet believed that the United States supreme court will decide as has the State court. Both Gov. Ansel and Attorney General Lyon, when notified ot the decision yesterday, had very little comment, except that the case would be fought out in the supreme Cburt and that eveiry effort would be made to show that the oontentiou of the whiskey nouses interested was wrong. In the meantime the securities involved in the case are in the hands ot the State treasurer and will remain there until an order from Gov. Ansel orders them turned over to the receivers. Death of a Young Lady in Kershaw. Kershaw Era: Miss Harriet Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Jones, died last Sunday morning about 4 o'clock after a brief confinement to her bed with bilious fever. She had been ainng tor some time but was in bed only a few days, during which she suffered most intense ly, but bore the extreme suffering with patience and christian resignation. Miss Jones was 26 years of age and for twelve years was a consistent member of the Baptist church. She had a most qriiet aud gentle disposition and was beloved by all who knew her. She left surviving her father and mother and several broth* era and sisters, all of whom have the sympathy of a host of friends in their sad bereavement. The remains were laid to rest Monday afternoon in the Kershaw cemetery, alter funeral services by Kev. Jabez Ferris, pastor of the Kershaw Baptist church, assisted by Kev. (). A. Jeffeoat, pastor of the Methodist church. Blacksmith Killed by Dentist Pensacola, Fla , Sept. 16 ? Dr. T. A. Bedgood, a prominent dentist of FloiHaton, Ala., today shot and killed John <lleason, a blacksmith. The shooting, it is said, was the result of a remark mado by Gleason regarding the dentist's family. Bedgood then surrendered. Columbia Record: With nerves shattered by the strain of the recent campaign, in which he was nominated superintendent of education for Lexington county, Mr. Juo. D. Farr, an educator well known throughout this section, committed suicide at an early hour t hi * morning, in t he yard of his residence at Chapin, by shooting himself in the head with a shotgun. The family heard him moving about shortly after midnight, but thought nothing of it at the time and went back to sleep and discovered nothing amiss until Mrs. Farr awoke toward daybreak. She m?s8ed her husband and got up to ascertain whether he had come back to bed. Not finding him ihe recalled his extremely nervous condition, and a remark of hi? a uay or two before, that a man with mind so torn as his had heater be dead. She then t ecamo somewhat alarmed and wap made still more so by the disc very that his gun was also mining. She aroused her daugh ter and they started upon a search for Mr. Farr. When they found him, lying lull length at his door-siep, with the whole crown of the head blown off and his brains spat tered over the ground uearby, he had been dead some hours, and rigor mortis had set in.
