History ot the Red Hill So *f School? What It Is Doing and a Plea for Ms T3dfiHftii- xt ance. \ Mr. Editor: Allow me space an in your valuable paper to ex- bo press a few thoughts in reference th< to the Red Hill school. This est school house is located on the Yoi border of four sch >ol districts, namely, Union, Fork Hill, Anti m( och and Rich Hill, but the house loe is in the Rich Hill District! br< This school is from two and one- 0f half to three miles from any to echoed. This' school house was W] k..:it )-?- i uuii* owoiy oy toe patrons, about eighteen in number, who cut the the stocks and hauled them to the jj saw mill. And built a large, 0V( good house, 30x40 feet, and 8W made up a good school for the summer, paying $35 per month ^rl for a teacher?money paid in advance- We now have fifty- cj two scholars on the roll, and let me pause and say right here that' a good number of these little tots have never been in a ^ school house before, the school houses being too far distant. And, again, we have a large V Sunday School in this bouse / evdry Sunday, about 75 in num. * * ber On the roll; This house is *n< filling a long-felt need in the inJ community, thus enabling little children to avail themselves of 'y the opportunity to get some edu ^ol cation, which is justly due them, ! and also lo be trained tip in the rot Sunday School, while if it were ha not for this school house some of ph them surely would grow up io in ignorance. arc Mr. Editor, when I look at the wa situation these little children are in, and at the distance they are from any school or church, and an< hear of some fellow whose child- t^e ren live in the school house yard | object to this school, it makes jng my blood burn within my veins. . Equal rights to all and special )U privileges to none, is my motto, A111 and it is Democratic, too. Oh mo my God, how can a man be so v selfish as to drag these little tots three miles to school through rough weather, over creeks and W1' branches,in rain and over muddy roads, when his children live in <1M the school house yard? Is it Pej fair, is it just? As I said in the J h outset tins school house was ,on built by the patrons of the school utt who paid every dollar; as was U8e also the teacher paid. Now we ' do not aim to hurt any school, vei we do not want anything but hoi what rightly belongs to us, we wit only ask for the money that we ah pay in for school purposes to be wr appropriated to this school. Is wa it right for us to have it, or is it wo right for us to pay taxes tb edu- gre cate the other fellow's child who ? lives in the school house yard? |y This we must do the way the a j thing is situated now or drag our cj0 little tots from 2 1-2 to 3 miles cje through all sorts of weather. , This school we need. This i?( school we are going to continue. . !h\ What will those in authority do W ft tor us?will they give us our money o^will they make us pay ^ to edicate the oiher fellow's child that lives in the school houso vard, and run our school i out ot our own pockets?
